The Texas Chapter of the National Association of Multicultural Education is committed to the development and implementation of the goals and objectives set forth by the National Association of Multicultural Education. It is our vision that all students have full and fair participation in a just society by learning the intrinsic value of their own self-worth and learning to value and respect divers

ity. We will work actively to promote the basic tenets of democracy, cultural pluralism and equity for all by educating all stakeholders (educators, students, policy-makers, parents and community members) about the goals and meanings of multicultural education; recruitment of new stakeholders at all levels; implementing instructional strategies and curriculum that encourage equal participation, appreciation of diversity and social action from all students; advocating the adoption of educational materials that accurately reflect the contributions and perspectives of all members of society and are free from bias; and by engaging each other in on-going professional dialogue.

Here’s a photo scavenger hunt from
Board member Taylor Bunn!

I woke up at 5:15 to pouring rain and DID NOT want to walk 5 kilometers. By 7:00, the sun was out and I lost my excuse to stay in bed. I took my time on my walk for the National Association for Multicultural Education and made it home sweaty, red-faced, caffeinated, and weighed down by a box of donuts I’d carried for two miles in full sun. In the end, I walked 4.49 miles. What a blessing to spend a Saturday morning moving my body in the sunshine, supporting a great cause and local businesses, and getting a little treat!

I’m using my Texas NAME photo scavenger hunt to share my favorite place with you, St. George Island, Florida.

Photo 1 - Roots: My route started on the beach with my feet in the water. I’ve always been a beach girl!

Photo 2 - Voice: I love this message board at Island Espresso . Patrons can buy a drink to pay forward. It’s fun to learn a bit about people by the notes they leave behind.

Photo 3 - Growth: These sago palms usually grow straight up, leaves spreading out to make room for new growth. This one is always out here looking like Gonzo, doing whatever it wants. I love it.

Photo 4 - Community: It’s turtle nesting season on the island, and it takes a village to keep the nests safe. Very few loggerheads (1 in 10,000) live to adulthood. the public beaches, people come gather to fish, read, swim, paddle, and relax. The St. George Island Sea Turtle Patrol does incredible work marking nests, monitoring progress, and educating the community about the importance of the turtles and how we can work together to help them survive.

Legacy: The Cape St. George Lighthouse is an enduring island landmark. Originally built in 1833, the lighthouse has fallen twice from storms and once from beach erosion. Each reconstruction used original materials. A climb to the top rewards you with 360-degree views of the Gulf of Mexico and Apalachicola Bay.
