Ursuline Academy of New Orleans

Ursuline Academy of New Orleans Ursuline Academy of New Orleans (est. 1727) is the first all-girls' Catholic school in the U.S.
(228)

It was the conviction of the Ursuline Sisters in 1727 that the education of women was essential to the development of a civilized, spiritual society, making Ursuline Academy, New Orleans, the oldest, continuously-operating school for women in the United States. An Ursuline student experiences a broad, challenging, and contemporary curriculum with a faculty committed to supporting each student from reading her first words through graduation and beyond. We remain dedicated to the long-standing traditions of courtesy, loyalty and courage to prepare our students for leadership and service to their churches, schools, communities and the world.

Mrs. Cremaldi recently won the Service Learning Lifetime Achievement Award from STEM Library Lab for her work with our students in collaboration with Bridge House Grace House, PACE, and Depaul USA. ๐Ÿ† This is her second STEMMY Award for service learning, and she will be the keynote speaker at the awards reception in December. Funded by the Brown Foundation, this important work, focused on addiction recovery, the elderly, and homelessness, is a true example of our school's motto Serviam in action.

We are so proud to have such a passionate, dedicated, and community-focused educator on our Academy faculty!

We're looking forward to our Yearbook Signing Party on our first 1727 Day of the school year on Thursday, August 27, in our beautiful Academy Courtyard. The newest alumnae, Class of 2026, already picked up their yearbooks, with a beautiful cover designed by Corinne DeBlanc '26, earlier this month.

This event is a way of honoring our founding year with a prayer service. As a reminder, students and staff are allowed to wear an Ursuline t-shirt, and K-3rd grade students may wear PE shorts and an Ursuline t-shirt instead of their jumper. Our new Tend the Vine theme shirts will be distributed in time for next week's event!

Before school started, our Lower School, Middle School, and High School faculty reflected on Pope Leo XIV's encyclical "Magnifica Humanitas," which reminds us that no technology can replace the special gifts God gives each person and calls us to protect human dignity and our environment as we learn new tools. With this in mind, Academy faculty spent professional development time learning how, when used with great stewardship and intention, AI can support their work.

Thank you to UA Alumna Jornea Armant '99 for leading this important work!
