EVERY child deserves an equal opportunity to obtain academic success. My hope is that black children don’t just have that ONE teacher who inspires them, but that feels that EVERY teacher has inspired and valued them in some way as a contributing member of the classroom/ school/ daycare.

I challenge each and every one of us to begin to reflect on the impact we are making on children’s education whether we are a parent, on the PTA/PTC, the teacher, the principal, the librarian, the school nurse or school social worker. We can do better. (This message is for ALL educators, teachers, and school support staff; regardless of race).

Children may show signs of dyslexia in Pre-K 4/ Kindergarten as they are learning to read. How you can teach your child to value diversity:

🖤 Model the kind of interactions you would like for your child to have.
🖤 Go to festivals where your child can hear new music, see new dancing, and eat new foods.

As you help your child learn new words, you’re also introducing them to the ideas of same and different. The ability to make these kinds of connections is at the hear of learning.
