EVERY child deserves an equal opportunity to obtain academic success. My hope is that black children don’t just have that ONE teacher who inspires them, but that feels that EVERY teacher has inspired and valued them in some way as a contributing member of the classroom/ school/ daycare.
I challenge each and every one of us to begin to reflect on the impact we are making on children’s education whether we are a parent, on the PTA/PTC, the teacher, the principal, the librarian, the school nurse or school social worker. We can do better. (This message is for ALL educators, teachers, and school support staff; regardless of race).
What Anti-racist Teachers Do Differently
They view the success of black students as central to the success of their own teaching.

A game changer for students with dyslexia. Advocate for your child as we transition as a nation to “Virtual Learning”. Children may show signs of dyslexia in Pre-K 4/ Kindergarten as they are learning to read. Ensure your child’s teacher AND school are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to assess learning styles and early literacy skills (BEFORE THEY ENTER 1st grade). 🪁
Technology Tools That Can Help Dyslexic Students | KQED
Most dyslexic students don’t have a problem understanding information— so allowing them to record a class instead of painstakingly take notes, or to speak an essay into a tablet instead of writing it down can change the game completely.

Great list of books for transitioning preschoolers/ toddlers. Our favorite is “The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School”. It shares how we all go to school and learn together while calming anxieties of not knowing what to expect. Read this book with your emerging reader to help them get excited about school and learning. 🪁

Great article... this is a great way of breaking down how to be a positive parent without the use of physical punishment and feeling like parents are being permissive. This also allows children to be little explorers (engineers) with parent boundaries. Try some of these strategies and let me know how they work for you. 🪁

How you can teach your child to value diversity:
🖤 Give your child experiences where they can learn about differences.
🖤 Let your child practice relating to others. The playground can be a good place for this.
🖤 Take advantage of “teachable moments” to explain your values to your child. From books you read together to tv shows you watch together.
🖤 Model the kind of interactions you would like for your child to have.
🖤 Go to festivals where your child can hear new music, see new dancing, and eat new foods.

Make the most of summer and try these reading activities for kids of all ages. We especially enjoy using our imagination to create stories together. Imaginative play allows children to express themselves verbally and physically, act, react, and try out different roles and scenarios. Make reading time memorable and discuss other possible scenarios or endings for the story by encouraging your child to use their imagination. Which reading activity is your favorite?
