Band Together NOLA is a collection of ensemble performance course specifically designed to teach young musicians the art of practicing, rehearsing, and performing as a group.
The 10 week course is intended to strengthen all the skills necessary for any musician to work well with others. Combining academics (basic music theory, reading and writing) with real-world insights (communicating with others on- and off-stage, rehearsal organization and planning, efficient practicing techniques, etc.), Band Together NOLA provides aspiring young musicians the opportunity to apply their skills in a group setting while learning valuable lessons applicable well beyond the world of music.
Students aged 8-16 will be placed into small ensemble groups (depending upon their age, instrument, skill level, genre preference, etc.), and over the course of 10 rehearsals will learn a number of songs of varying styles and complexities. Each 90-min rehearsal will begin with individual and full-band warm-ups, breathing and listening exercises, and a review of the day’s agenda. At each session’s conclusion, students will highlight any material which should be reviewed at home with their private instructor in preparation for the next session.
At the end of 10 sessions, students will meet one final time for a Dress Rehearsal to review and prepare all the material for the final concert, The Band Together NOLA Showcase, The Showcase will feature performances from all of the Band Together NOLA groups, and will be held at a l0cal, family-friendly music venue for the entire community to attend.
Classes begin January 20th, 2020. Hope to see you there!
