We are so excited to share all things Montessori with the city of New Orleans!

is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day. Among the many women who have challenged “the system” over the years is Dr. Maria Montessori. She was the first woman to study medicine at the University of Rome, and she became one of the first female doctors in Italy in 1896. That same year, she spoke about equal pay for women at the International Congress for Women in Berlin. Later, her work led her to study children and education. In January 1907, she opened the first Casa de Bambini, or Children’s House.
