Looking for people throughout Louisiana who are interested in putting a bat house on their property in order to track house locations & ID/monitor bats.
Thank you for taking interest in bats in Louisiana! The purpose of this project is to install and track bat houses in La. so we can determine population size and species. So far there is no conversation or monitoring in the state. Bats are extremely crucial to Louisiana agriculture and pest control. It is natural and free! (Less 1% of rabies is caused by bats in case you were concerned). Bats the
only flying mammal and can live up to 36 years having only one baby per year which is why it takes so long to build up a population. We are also working with La. Wildlife & Fisheries. So how do you get involved? Buy a bat house, put it up! (We can help install)
Let us know the location so we can enter it into our database so we can track locations. Then let us know when you get bats and send us pics so we can determine species. Here is the website you can go to order to order the right bat house for your property. There are many different types so if you know schools, farms, parks for other large areas of land that would be interested in putting up the larger multi family houses, please let me so I can contact them. This would a great great youth project. WWW.LABATHOUSE.ORG
