When you think of Martin Luther King Jr, you often think of what he did and the steps he took. But what about those who came before him, during him, and after him? What legacy did they leave behind and how does it all come together?

I’m so glad I am able to be with my students today (MLK Day) to discuss the significance of his legacy and life. This book, The First Step by Susan E. Goodman, is a beautiful story of how one little girl started taking steps towards desegregation in the 1800s and paved the way for others to follow. How are you remembering Dr. King today?
