Home from the demo.
Ever have a demo that was perfect from start to finish?
Kempton was that demo for us.
Excellent management. Great communication. Assisted with set-up. Provided cover without us even asking. Checked in with us regularly to make sure things were going well.
This year we went for one day to test out our fit.
Next year we will be doing all 3 days.

A juicy printing assignment: a letter of marque, in this instance (from a long past auction, I guess) granting one James Powel of the schooner Northampton rights to pillage and plunder British ships, October 24, 1776. It being three months after the Declaration of Independence, yet they had leftover forms that call them the United Colonies. Why waste a good form?

My wife Catherine Sauer (Denise) and I are catching up on the TV series Outlander.
We're up to Season 7; they just fought the first day of the battle of Saratoga.
The co-lead, Jamie, had been a printer in Edinburgh for some time. His wife, Claire, shows him a printed paper, and Jamie identifies the type as "twelve-point Caslon."
Oooooh, SO CLOSE.
It was at that moment I recognized, historical accuracy in media is asymptotic; you can strive ever closer, and hope to get most of the way there. And it's encumbent on the pedantic viewer to appreciate how far they got, while knowing the one thing that keeps that moment from perfection.
So bravo, Outlander!

[There were not yet point sizes in the 1770s. The size would've had the name Pica. Jamie would've called it "Pica Caslon." — On the plus side, he recognized a size just by looking at it, the typesetting equivalent of perfect pitch.]
