With an overarching goal to encourage and support promising young scholars to pursue careers in the sciences, Pathways to Science opens the door for middle and high school students to explore science at Yale University. Pathways Scholars leveled up their creativity at the TechArts & Crafts: Game On event!🎮🎨

The Duke Lab and members of Lin Zhong's research group guided Pathways Scholars through a hands-on adventure combining gaming, programming, and technology, participants explored how to create their own game! From creating controllers with playdough through the Makey Makey kit and designing their own game through Scratch programming, the scholars had a fun time!

Pathways Scholars explored the mysteries of the heart at the first Art & The Heart event!🎨❤️🩺

Through guidance from scientists and doctors from the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center, students learned all about the circulatory system, hearts, and blood through a variety of activities, including an art project and a board game! While combining arts and sciences together, the event was a blast!

Have you ever wondered how our bodies defend against infections and disease? 🦠

Throwback to the Day of Immunology from April, where students explored the secrets of the immune system—from how it fights infections to what happens when things go wrong. Through interactive workshops and activities, scholars learned how our bodies respond to parasites and gained insight into the science behind staying healthy! 🔬

Local students and families had a thrilling time at the Yale Physics’ Haunted Hallway and Spooky Demo Show!🎃✨

With hands-on demos led by physicists, participants were able to explore giant pendulums, mysterious sounds, electricity, the mysteries of levitation, and even witness safe explosions!

Rewinding to last spring, Yale Funbotics hosted a six-session workshop where students built robots in teams guided by undergraduate mentors!

The series taught core engineering skills, team building, critical thinking, and problem-solving while having FUN! At the end of the program, students and their robots faced off in a cone-stacking competition while their peers and parents cheered them on 🤖🏅

Although writing college essays can be a daunting task, the Yale Graduate Student volunteers helped make the process easier by looking over essay drafts through one-on-one workshopping and supporting the incredible effort that goes into crafting a college essay!

Tuning into a past event about the Science of Sound, Girls’ Science Investigations from Spring 2024 is still echoing in our memories!🔊🗣️

We learned all about the properties of sound through activities incorporating every day items— rubber bands, salt, and even slinkies! From diving into the complexities of sound in space to learning about how sound travels through different materials before reaching our ears, we had a blast!
