On Wednesday, February 25, the 2026 Yale Forum on Climate Change and Health convened researchers, clinicians, non-profit practitioners, policymakers, students, and community members at Yale University’s Sterling Memorial Library for a day focused on advancing climate action through a public health lens.

Thank you to all our guest speakers, students, faculty staff, and community members who made this event possible. And thank you to everyone who braved the snow to join us. We’re grateful for such an engaged and thoughtful community working together to advance climate and health solutions. 🌎🌳2m

COP30 reinforced that effective climate action hinges on resilient systems, transparent governance, and stronger global cooperation. From scaling adaptation finance to safeguarding vulnerable communities, goals set in Belém highlight how urgently nations must act.

But progress doesn’t happen on policy alone. It needs people. Evidence-based decision-making, and accountable leadership are central to turning these goals into actual climate resilience on the ground.

Dear friends, supporters, and advocates,

As 2025 draws to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support. In a time of political uncertainty and declining federal investment in climate and public health, it is your generosity that enables the Yale Center on Climate Change and Health (YCCCH) at the Yale School of Public Health to keep this vital work moving forward.

For the past decade, we've championed the vision of healthy people on a healthy planet. Your ongoing support enables us to:
1) Drive research that addresses the health impacts of the climate crisis. We conduct interdisciplinary research on the health risks of climate change to generate evidence that guides public health interventions, policy, and community preparedness.

2) Build resilience with our community partners. We partner with local organizations to translate research into practical solutions that protect human health and strengthen community resilience.

3) Train the next generation of climate-health leaders. We equip our students and emerging professionals with hands-on experience, mentorship, and skills to tackle the intersections of climate-related health challenges globally.

This Giving Tuesday, please consider making a tax-deductible donation of any size to YCCCH. Together, we can protect public health in the face of climate change.

With the future in mind, we are inspired by the progress we’ve made and energized by the opportunities to expand our impact. Thank you for being part of this journey—we wish you a joyful holiday season with your loved ones and look forward to continuing this important work in the year ahead.

With hope and appreciation from our family to yours,
The YCCCH Team

This year, the Northeastern United States has faced record-breaking rain and repeated flash floods, disrupting communities, damaging homes, and threatening drinking water quality. Beyond property loss, flooding increases risks of mold exposure, waterborne illness, and mental health strain long after the waters recede.

As climate change fuels heavier storms, protecting health means preparing our infrastructure and our public health systems for a wetter future.

We can’t stop the rain, but we can change what it means. Act local. Work for climate. Live lighter — while there’s still time.

Climate change is leading to stronger, more intense and destructive hurricanes that can have immediate, ongoing, and cumulative effects on mental health. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health offers materials to help health care providers use ICD-10 Z codes to report social determinants of health. These codes can be applied to mental health impacts from hurricanes and other climate-related events and can help provide more holistic care and address health disparities by documenting the impact these factors have on health.

Click through to learn more about how hurricanes impact mental health, and how you can ask your healthcare provider to apply ICD-10 codes to push for better care addressing climate-related impacts on health.
