We hear it all the time: "What actually happens at the workshop?"

Here's a straightforward look:

Hour 1 – Industry orientation. How it really works: management vs. agencies, realistic goals, honest expectations. No hype. Just clarity.

Hour 2 – Your child's brand. Professional resume development, casting types, and building their personal brand based on who they actually are.

Hour 3 – Hands-on profile setup. Parents bring a laptop or iPad and we walk through creating profiles on Actors Access and Casting Networks: the platforms industry professionals actually use.

Hour 4 – Self-tape, slate & headshots. Self-tape training, a slate session, and a mini shoot with a professional photographer. Two edited headshots (commercial + legit look) included.

The August 29 session runs 10am–12pm.

What happens when a professional ballet career ends before you're ready and how do you turn that heartbreak into your greatest strength as a teacher and studio owner?

This week, Robin sits down with Jess Keller, owner and artistic director of Palm Beach Academy of Dance Arts in South Florida, for a conversation that feels less like an interview and more like coffee with a friend who just happens to have lived one of the most fascinating journeys in dance.

Jess opens up about training at the School of American Ballet, moving to Miami at 16 to attend Miami City Ballet School (yes, in an apartment, without her parents), and dancing professionally with Miami City Ballet, before being told mid-Giselle weekend that her contract wasn't being renewed. She shares what that moment felt like, how it broke her relationship with ballet for a time, and how walking away from dance and into a classroom actually set her up to become the studio leader she is today.

From elementary school teacher to math coach to ESE specialist, Jess's career in education didn't just fill the gap, it completely shaped how she sees dancers: as whole humans first. You'll hear how motherhood softened her teaching, how her professional experience drives her to build the resilience in students that she wishes someone had built in her, and what she's working toward for the next chapter of her studio.

Robin and Jess also get into the dream of studio ownership, building equity, buying land, designing your ideal space, and the unexpected gift of finding community with other studio owners who get it.

We have to talk about Ella...

She was the first student to walk through the door at Next Stage Talent Management by EMC. She showed up not knowing exactly what to expect, sat down, and got to work. By the end, she had a professional resume, completed casting profiles, a polished slate video, and edited headshots — the real, submission-ready kind.

She didn't wait until she felt "ready enough." She decided that readiness was something she was going to build.

That's exactly what this program is designed to do. Not to discover hidden stars or make big promises. To give young performers and their families the tools, knowledge, and confidence to show up prepared for whatever opportunity comes next.

Remember Tara Gladden: Your gift empowers young dancers to train intensely, grow their self-worth, and pursue their potential.
The Tara Gladden Scholarship Fund was created in memory of my cousin, Tara Gladden, who was taken from us at just 15 years old. Tara was bright, talented, and full of life, but like so many young people, she struggled to see her own worth. Her story is a painful reminder of how important it is to help young people recognize their strength, trust their voice, and believe in their own value.

Today, on her birthday, that reminder feels especially close.

In the years since her passing, I've made it my mission through EMC Performing Arts Studio (EMC) to help every student who walks through our doors feel confident, capable, and proud of who they are. The Tara Gladden Scholarship Fund is one way we keep that promise, by providing financial assistance to dancers who demonstrate commitment, passion, and heart.

Since 2020, the Wiencek family has donated over $10,000 in scholarships to EMC dancers, opening doors for students who wish to pursue summer study and other opportunities that help them grow as artists and as people.

Your contribution to the Tara Gladden Scholarship Fund helps continue this legacy, giving young dancers the chance to train, perform, and discover their true potential in a safe, supportive environment.

Today, of all days, we'd be grateful if you'd help us honor Tara by giving young dancers the confidence, courage, and lasting sense of self-worth she deserved to have.

EMC Talent Management is led by Meghan Bulls: educator, EMC parent, and experienced industry guide.

As a mother who has personally navigated the professional performing world with her own daughters (who have booked print, television, film, and stage work), Meghan understands what real preparation requires.

She is also a credentialed dance educator who has written curriculum for Baltimore County Public Schools, bringing structured, developmentally appropriate programming to this initiative.

We're growing, and we're looking for passionate performing arts educators to grow with us.

EMC Performing Arts Studio has been a cornerstone of this community for 35 years — not just because of our programs, but because of the people who show up every week and pour into our students. Many of our instructors are EMC alumni who came back because this place meant something to them. That's the kind of team you'd be joining.

We offer dance, music, theater, and AcroGymnastics training to nearly 1,000 students weekly in a 20,000 sq. ft. historic facility in New Freedom, PA. Our class sizes are small. Our students are motivated. Our community is real.
