Team 2197 had so much fun this past weekend at the FIN Mishawaka district event!

We nominated 2 of our students who were interviewed for the FIRST Leadership Award and our BAMM team did a wonderful job presenting their FIRST Impact Award presentation to the judges!

In qualifying matches our record was 6-6 and we did not get chosen for an alliance in playoffs.

Thank you penn_robotics for hosting this awesome event!

We will be competing the FIN Washington district event April 2nd-4th! We’re excited for our next event and the opportunity to compete with the other teams attending!

Weekly recap!

• The electrical team is working hard on getting the robot moving!

• BAMM is putting the final touches on their impact presentation!

• Mechanical finished the major parts of the robot, now it’s just fine tuning and helping the electrical team!

• CAD designed and printed some crucial parts for the build!

• Safety kept everyone safe and secured a travel AED for competition! Safety also tested members to make sure everyone knows how to be safe at competition!

Congrats to our Robotics President, Liberty Scanlan, for being a finalist for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship finalist!

Unity Foundation of La Porte County is pleased to recognize 10 local high school seniors as La Porte County finalists for the prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. Two of the finalists will be selected as 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars. The two scholars will each receive a full-tuition scholarship to pursue a baccalaureate degree at any accredited public or private Indiana college or university and an annual book and equipment stipend. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program has provided approximately $6 million in tuition and book stipends to benefit 76 La Porte County students since 1998.

“This year’s finalists are an exceptional group of students. Their academic achievements, leadership, and service to others speak volumes about their character and potential,” said CC Payne, Director of Operations at Unity Foundation. “We are excited to see where their paths lead and hope they will continue to make a positive impact in their communities.”

The finalists, their places of residence and respective schools are:

Guadalupe Osornio-Luna, La Crosse resident, attends Tri-Township Jr./Sr. High School.
Joshua Jaracz, La Porte resident, attends La Lumiere School.
Kenneth Hurni, Union Mills resident, attends South Central Jr./Sr. High School.
Liam Neary, Long Beach resident, attends Marquette High School.
Liberty Scanlin, Rolling Prairie resident, attends New Prairie High School.
Madeleine McCarther, La Porte resident, attends Marquette High School.

Mia Palomo, La Porte resident, attends Michigan City High School.
Milad Mroueh, Michigan City resident, attends Michigan City High School.
Mylee Moser, Hanna resident, attends South Central Jr./Sr. High School.

A committee of local volunteers reviewed the applications in a blind process. Finalists were selected based on their academic achievement, service to others, extracurricular activities and, to a lesser extent, financial need. The committee then interviewed each of the finalists. Nominees and alternate names will be submitted to the Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc., the statewide administrator of the program, for the final selection – which will be announced in December. As a reward for their achievements, the remaining finalists will receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Unity Foundation.

The primary purposes of the program are: 1) to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 2) to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 3) to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.
