DET485’s fifth week of operations for the Fall ’26 semester wrapped up with an incredibly eventful Friday.
 
DET485’s newest Technical Sergeant, Dayztyka D. Collins, received her promotion from the DET485 Commander during a ceremony attended by Cadre, Cadets, and loved ones. Congratulations, Technical Sergeant Collins!
 
LLAB 05 brought officers from AFSCs across the Air Force to share their professions and experiences with Cadets, providing a valuable opportunity to learn more about potential career paths and life in the Air Force.
 
Many of these officers are former Ravens themselves, and returned to the Detachment for the annual Raven’s Night, an event where cadets learn about detachment history, heritage, ask questions, and further connect with Alumni.

Meet Cadet Second Lieutenant Oleg Gayduk, DET485’s very own Cadet Recruiting Officer.

C/2nd Lt Gayduk is an avid outdoors enthusiast, enjoying fishing, hiking, and camping. Within the detachment he goes above and beyond in his duties as Recruiting Officer, designing the yearbook, hosting recruiting events, and writing the Detachment’s newsletter.

When he commissions, C/2nd Lt Gayduk aims to fulfill his aviation dreams and become a Pilot. His favorite AFROTC memory was flying an EMB-312 Tucano during Field Training.

DET485 wraps up its fourth week of operations of the Fall '26 semester with two PTs and an LLAB packed with valuable training.

After a real-world intelligence briefing put together by the A2 Intelligence team, cadets built upon mission planning knowledge and drill proficiency via Flight Drill Evaluations and Group Leadership Problems.

Meet Cadet Third Class Erica Cortez, a passionate DET485 Raven. Cadet Cortez began her AFROTC journey in the Fall ‘25 semester, taking a year gap to complete BMT before returning to pursue her commission. When she commissions, she aims to work in her current Cyber career field. 

In her free time, C/Cortez enjoys running, lifting, hiking, skiing, and anything that requires her to move her body and enjoy the outdoors. Her favorite AFROTC memory was in the fall of ‘25, when her flight threw her a surprise goodbye party before her departure to BMT, a perfect example of the high morale and esprit de corps the Detachment aims to foster.

On the memory, C/Cortez said “That memory reminded me that, at the end of the day, although we're all chasing our dreams and about to venture into new experiences, we're all family. I'll always remember that.

DET485's third week of operations turned up the pressure with rigorous PT and advanced drill instruction. Cadets participated in their first full Opening Formation, and learned the intricacies of transitory drill from peer instruction in LLAB 03. 

After LLAB, cadets used transitory drill to march over to the POW/MIA ceremony, and kick off the 24 hour POW/MIA run, in which the American and POW flags never stopped moving for 24 hours.

Meet Cadet Third Class Zakaria Rehman, a fitness enthusiast, cat person, marathon runner, and proud DET485 Raven. When he commissions, he aims to become either aa 11X Pilot or 62E Developmental Engineer.

C/Rehman enjoys lifting, archery, photography, and marathon running. He is training to complete an ironman 70.3 triathlon in September and a full ironman in 2027.

When he's not pushing his limits in AFROTC and beyond, C/Rehman loves spending time with his siblings and his cats.

DET485 wraps up its second week of operations for the Fall '26 semester. New cadets experienced their first standalone PT on Tuesday, and on Friday DET485 joined over 300 cadets across every branch of ROTC for a 9/11 memorial stair climb.

⭐️ SENIOR SPOTLIGHT ⭐️

2d Lt Malyssa G. Eddy is from Tucson, Arizona, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, with minors in Optimization and Quantitative Decision Science and Robotics, from Princeton University. She was competitively selected to pursue a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology through the United States Space Force Advanced Academic Degree Program.

17 Ravens attended the Field Training Exercise (FTX) from 28-29 March, at Fort Indiantown Gap, bringing together 5 different Northeast Detachments, , in a field exercise simulating those which may be seen at field training. Through a collaborative exercise, cadets are able to put their minds together, work as a team, and apply their GMC knowledge in high-pressure scenarios.
