Yesterday afternoon Nesbit Fire Department responded to a brush fire in Nesbit. Upon arrival NFD found a large fire burning in a wooded area. Due to the size of the fire and difficulties accessing the fire, many additional resources were needed to help contain the blaze.

Assistance was requested from the county road department and the road department provided bulldozers to assist firefighters with accessing and containing the fire.

In addition to the road department, Nesbit received assistance from Bridgetown Fire Department, Eudora Fire Department, Walls Fire Department, and Desoto County EMA.

Tanker 7, Squad 7, Squad 17, and 14 firefighters responded from Nesbit.

As always, we are thankful for our dedicated volunteers and the assistance from neighboring departments when needed.

One potential challenge of fighting fire in rural areas can be limited access to a reliable water source. Our solution to this problem is Tanker 7. With a 3,000 gallon capacity this apparatus, as well as utilizing the tankers of our neighboring departments, can provide all the water we need at the scene of a fire.

Last night our firefighters reviewed tanker shuttle operations. Utilizing tankers to shuttle water from the closest fire hydrant to the fire scene can provide our firefighters with a constant supply of water for extended firefighting operations.

We are thankful to have this piece of equipment as well as a partnership with neighboring departments to supply our firefighters the water they need.

Yesterday evening Nesbit Fire Department responded to assist Walls Fire Department with an apartment fire. One apartment building was well involved with fire upon arrival.

In addition to the heavy fire load, outdoor temperatures reaching triple digits yesterday further complicated fire suppression efforts. This fire required a response from many fire departments across the county, including nearly all of Nesbit Fire Departments resources. Engine 7, Engine 17, Rescue 7, Squad 7, Squad 17, and many personnel responded from Nesbit.

Responding to calls in heat like this has nearly depleted our supply of drinking water for our volunteer firefighters. Donations of drinking water and sports drinks are always appreciated. Drinks can be left at our station at 3233 Nesbit Road or contact us if necessary at (662) 429-6841 or [email protected]

Yesterday evening Nesbit Fire Department was dispatched to two separate rollover accidents with entrapment. The accidents were dispatched approximately 6 hours apart.

For both incidents NFD utilized our recently purchased battery powered Amkus rescue tools. These tools were a significant financial investment for our department, but the benefits were evident last night as our team utilized this new equipment on two separate extrications.

As always we are grateful for our dedicated volunteers that dedicate their time to training and responding to incidents like this. If you are interested in joining our team visit our website at www.nesbitfire.org
