Thank you Oprah and Senator Hillary Clinton for moving Upstream to prevent child abuse.

It’s always nice to see Oprah Winfrey. Doubly so when our paths cross because of a cause we both support: making sure every child has the opportunity to reach their God-given potential.

Last week, we both attended the launch of the leadership council for the Adverse Childhood Experiences Resource Network, or ARN. Science tells us that we can break the cycle of early childhood trauma.

Alongside my council co-chair, former Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, we’ll build on the work of pioneering leaders in the states—like California’s former Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris—to scale the prevention, early detection, and evidence-based treatment of childhood trauma into standard pediatric care.

We owe every child the opportunity to heal, develop, and thrive.
