Run by Vanderbilt's Hearing and Speech Sciences Department with camp counselors from our own Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology program, Camp T.A.L.K.S is a week-long program for children ages 8-16 who stutter and their families. To kick off our , fourth-year Doctor of Audiology students Claire Mitchell, Rachel Page, Helen Bao, and Erin Knight traveled to Kraków, Poland, to provide hearing and balance services to Ukrainian refugees.

Over 10 days this past May, the students and their mentors cared for dozens of patients through vestibular function evaluations, hearing aid fittings, balance disorder treatment, patient education, and teaching them to maintain their hearing aids post-visit.

We often talk about the importance of learning outside the classroom. In the Wilderness Medicine elective, students take that idea literally.

Led by emergency medicine physicians Drs. Aubri Charnigo and Mary Kate Jordan, the Wilderness Medicine elective culminated in a two-day backpacking trip where MD students practiced their skills in real-world conditions.

While exploring Savage Gulf, students trained in bleeding control, splinting, patient evacuation from remote and swift-water environments, and managing emergencies such as anaphylaxis, insect and snake bites, and hypo- and hyperthermia, all with limited resources.

A defining moment in a medical student's life is the day they receive their white coat. Not only does it signify the beginning of their VUSM journey, it also celebrates the tireless work students have put in to reach this point.

Pivotal VUSM traditions like the White Coat Ceremony would not be possible without The White Coat Fund and its donors. We are incredibly thankful for the generous donations that allow us to provide deeply impactful experiences to students and their families.
