Not finished yet, reads, Christmas reads, and Birthday reads...we BEST get reading, Lucy...I mean, reading aloud, Kristen. We are plowing through the Babysitter's Club, because those graphic novels are my student's favorite reads, up to 15...sort of.

Latest Reads: Winnie the Horse Gentler is a series, very impressed! It is Christian-based but not heavy-handed, VERY well-researched for horse lovers, and the best part is the engaging characters and stories.

The Wild Robot Protects - Final book in the Wild Robot trilogy, best series, emotional and fulfilling, excellent book to promote children's love and protection of the environment.

Raymie Nightingale & Melody Queen are the two books from the Spooky Halloween Trick-or-Treat at the Nashville Public Library - Edmondson Pike Branch . They had several treat stations. The BEST treat station was the free books, one per person. I even got a Tarot card reading.

Show me what you're reading, let me know if you have or want to read any of these books.

Latest Reads - We are still working on finishing Charlotte's Web. I never read the Babysitter's Club books when I was a kid. We got the third book by accident, and I am very impressed with the structure and topics of angst. I choose Graphic Novels to add variety and increase my reading aloud speed. We are still working on reading skills for my student.

Thoughts on Books:
Sink or Swim: Liked the visual representation of anxiety as feeling like drowning. There was an exploration of self-hatred of the body from a boy's perspective, rarely acknowledged in books or the clinical community. However, too many topics shoehorned into one book. Overall, alright.

Born Naughty - Writing is not sophisticated. The book is charming, reads like Little House on the Prairie set in Mongolia.

Knots - We've just started, but I like the idea of people becoming friends because of shared situations, rather than interests. A great way to explore different kinds of friendships and take them for what they are

The Wild Robot Escapes - Second in the series, hoping Roz gets back to Brightbill.

Charlotte's Web - Finally started, other books kept taking precedence.

What is the name of the Cathedral below? The Rebel Girls know because we went on a butterfly migration to Central America and learned some Latin, too. Our journey was in honor of Maria Sibylla Merian, who proved that butterflies do not come from mud. Yes, that was the prevailing belief about how caterpillars transformed into butterflies. She coined the word - metamorphosis.

Our butterflies have grown from caterpillars. If you want to try this at home, we went through https://www.insectlore.com/. I already had the butterfly habitat, so the cost was lowered. It is an excellent activity to experience the animal life cycle with your kids.

Heart & Soul is well-named. Haley puts so much love into her lesson plans. Each session has a consistent framework, but Haley allows flexibility to let the student guide the content. My daughter adores Irish music and horse riding, and Haley immediately found ways to incorporate the topics. We discovered Heart & Soul via the Richland Park Library; Haley offered music therapy lessons. I was impressed by the high level of creative content, along with her visual presentations, which were well-structured and vibrant. I have wanted to start my daughter with piano for a while, but I couldn't find a teacher who could teach in a manner conducive to my daughter's OT and PT restraints. It turns out we were waiting for Haley. I told Haley that my goal for my daughter in playing piano was to help improve her OT skills and strength in her hands. Now, I wish Haley had taught me piano. Each lesson is so creative. There are games for hand strengthening, music skills, and educational concepts. My daughter adores Haley. As a parent, I appreciate Haley's dedication and love.

OT skills lesson focus: I traced triangles on the back of wrapping paper and had my daughter cut out the shapes. We used spring-assisted scissors for cutting. The stamping practiced the patience of paying attention to word groupings. My student detests art projects because of the OT skills, but having a purpose, such as a thank you card/greeting card to friends, helps with the process. It is still a process and very tasking for her because of the focus required. These projects are usually seasonal, but I have seen improvement because we work on them rather than abandoning cutting/craft skills entirely.
