Empower - to give (someone) the authority or power to do something.
People ask what got me started in the self defense industry. It all comes down to the fact that I, like many women, have suffered many forms of abuse. Mental, physical, emotional, and yes even sexual abuse. There were too many instances where I was lucky with the outcome of situations I was in, meaning it could have been worse, but it still wasn’t good.
Well I got tired of being “lucky”, so I decided to take my safety into my own hands, rather than relying on the stronger, larger people I believed to love me. I started with boxing, brazilian jiu-jitsu (bjj) didn’t interest me in the least. I didn’t want some sweaty guy that I didn’t know all up in my space and smashing me on the mat..... Well I was pushed to try ONE class, I was HOOKED! There is no greater feeling than being able to best someone larger and stronger than you, ESPECIALLY as a small woman. I weighed 115lbs at the time, so basically everyone was bigger than me.
I started training, didn’t really care about the color of my belt, I more so cared about winning. Thus, came the realization that there are hundreds, thousands, MILLIONS of women out there that felt the same way! I wanted to create a program that cut out all the bu****it, the sport related stuff, the fluff if you will. Victims of every age and gender aren’t worried about training for 10+ years to get their black belt. They just want to know how to win. And so EMPOWER was born.
So if you are interested in never being afraid of going to work, school, mall, ON A WALK, anywhere really then I encourage you to try out one of my classes. If not, then at least give one of my seminars a chance. I promise you won’t be disappointed. No one should be afraid to go about their life. But they can become more aware and take charge of their security, knowing they stand a much better chance of coming home every night.
