Dr. Floyd will be presenting the following session:

Evidence-based Assessment of Intellectual Disability in Children and Adolescents

Session length: 90 minutes

This presentation provides school psychologists with an evidence-based approach to assessing intellectual disability (ID) in children and adolescents. It reviews current diagnostic and educational eligibility frameworks, including those used by the AAIDD, DSM-5-TR, and IDEA, and explains how intellectual functioning, adaptive behavior, developmental history, and contextual factors should be considered together when making decisions.

The session also focuses on key psychometric issues that affect assessment accuracy, such as reliability, confidence intervals, test floors, norm recency, and validity. Participants will learn how to integrate multiple sources of assessment data, avoid common diagnostic errors, differentiate ID from other conditions, and make defensible eligibility decisions that support individualized intervention and service planning.

💰 Treasurer: Erica Roberts 💰

Erica Roberts graduated from The University of Tennessee Knoxville with her Bachelor Degree in Psychology and with her Education Specialist Degree in School Psychology. After working for a few years in East Tennessee, she moved to Nashville and has worked in the Metro Nashville Public Schools as a school psychologist for more than 20 years. She served as a Lead School Psychologist for four years and is currently the Coordinator of School Psychology in MNPS. Erica has served TASP in the roles of Regional Representative, Convention Chairperson, and Awards Chairperson in the past. She is currently serving as the Treasurer.

Erica has been married (to a school psychologist!) for over 20 years. They have a daughter and two sons. Erica and her family enjoy traveling, watching movies, family game nights, and finding ways to make each other laugh.

✨️ Evaluating Multilingual Learners: The Role of Nonverbal Cognitive Instruments and Implications for Ethical Practice ✨️

Duration: 90-minute

This presentation focuses on best practices for evaluating multilingual learners (MLLs) in school settings. Participants will learn about the importance of incorporating nonverbal cognitive assessment tools into comprehensive evaluations, with special attention given to the newly released nonverbal index of the Woodcock-Johnson Fifth Edition (WJ-5). The session examines how nonverbal assessments can support more accurate and equitable decision-making, including special education eligibility determinations, while also addressing ethical considerations and defensible assessment practices for school psychologists.

Secretary: Morgan Reavis

Morgan Reavis is a 5th year school psychologist at Metro Nashville Public Schools, where she has worked since her internship in 2020. She earned her M.A. and Ed.S. from Middle Tennessee State University in 2021. She has been the secretary for TASP since 2023 and is a member of the Convention Committee, and has been active in TASP since 2019 as a student board member.

Morgan enjoys reading, yoga, and is a blue belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu. She loves spending time with her friends, family, and her dog Jack.

✨️ Meet your TASP board members ✨️

President Elect (who will be the next president): Amanda Hardin

Amanda Hardin is a licensed and nationally certified school psychologist, assistant professor, and school psychology program director at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. With nearly two decades of experience in school psychology, she specializes in assessment, rural mental health, and training future practitioners. Amanda has worked extensively in K-12 settings, higher education, and state-level educational initiatives. Within TN she has served as a school psychologist in Franklin County Schools, Bradley County Schools, and currently serves as the school psychologist for Skyuka Hall in Chattanooga, TN.

Amanda previously served as a regional rep for TASP and is an active leader in NASP, where she serves as the Rural School Psychology Interest Group Coordinator and is a program accreditation reviewer.

In her free time, Amanda loves to travel and cruise around the world with her husband and son.

Past President: Pam Haggard

Pam Haggard received her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Carson-Newman College and her Ed.S. in School Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Currently she is in her nineteenth year as a School Psychologist with the Alcoa City School District. Prior to that, she served as the School Psychologist for the Sweetwater City School system for eleven years, five of which she was also the special education supervisor. Pam has held a variety of positions on the TASP Board over the years, including three terms as president, two terms as Tennessee’s NASP delegate, TASP secretary, TASP treasurer, and the East TN regional representative.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Pam is the proud head coach of the Alcoa High School boys and girls cross country teams and and also the distance coach for the the boys and girls track teams. In her spare time Pam enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her family.

Current TASP President: Lydia Newsom

Lydia Newsom has been in education since 1992, having attended both University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State University. She was a past regional representative for TASP. She was an elementary teacher for eight years at Hillsboro Elementary School in Hillsboro, TN (Coffee County). She served the rural districts as a School Psychologist in Pulaski (Giles County) and Lewisburg (Marshall County). She also served Franklin Special School District 5 years (Williamson County) and then as a Lead School Psychologist in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Lydia is married to Mark Newsom, has one son, Jacob (31), and has one spoiled dog, Scout. Lydia enjoys giving back to our community of psychologists, gardening, reading books, social gatherings, live music, traveling, and family time
