Across 32 projects, participants shared how collaboration can address real-world challenges—from public health to education and policy research. The event also recognized student teams and a community partner for meaningful, sustained engagement.
These partnerships reflect the role universities can play in strengthening communities and informing solutions that matter.

The Nashville Jazz Workshop is proud to have partnered with our neighbors at John Early Museum Magnet Middle School in the development of All That Jazz: A Student Exhibit with Live Music!
During their spring semester, hard working middle school students studied with professional mentors from NJW to create a museum exhibit on the history of jazz in Nashville and beyond. Celebrate the opening of their exhibit on May 12th from 10AM-12PM, with live music from NJW mentors starting at 10:30 AM!

At Vanderbilt University, strong partnerships with our community are central to how we approach our work.
Last week, we welcomed local partners, faculty, staff and students for our Community Engagement Symposium. The event created space to share ideas, highlight ongoing work and learn from one another.
We were proud to feature over 75 presenters representing a wide range of projects and partnerships across Nashville and beyond.
We also recognized three honorees at the close of the symposium: "Cutting Out Stigma", Distinguished Community Partner; "Co-Learning, Creativity, and Youth Empowerment in Juvenile Detention", recipient of the Marshall C. Eakin Award for Undergraduate Community Service; and "Evaluating Substance Use Prevention Coalitions in TN: A Statewide Community Engaged Partnership", recipient of the Sharon L. Shields Award for Graduate Community Service.
