I had a conversation recently with a nanny candidate who asked a really fair question.
“If I have years of childcare experience, why does it matter that it wasn’t recent?”
It’s something a lot of caregivers don’t realize until they start applying through agencies.
In the nanny industry, recent experience matters more than most people think.
It’s not because someone isn’t capable or wouldn’t be wonderful with children. It’s because families almost always ask the same question when reviewing a resume:
“What have they been doing recently?”
If the last nanny job was five or six years ago, parents naturally start wondering:
Are they still comfortable with infants?
Are they familiar with current sleep and safety recommendations?
Have they been working with kids recently?
As agency owners, we have to think about how families review candidates. And sometimes that means turning away wonderful caregivers simply because their recent work history doesn’t reflect childcare.
It’s one of the harder parts of this job.
I wrote a blog breaking this down because I think more nannies deserve to understand how agencies actually make these decisions.
I'm curious to hear from other agency owners and career nannies. Do you think recent experience matters as much as families believe it does?
Read the full article here:
Why Nanny Agencies Require Recent Childcare Experience (And Why It Matters)
Many nannies are confused when agencies prioritize recent nanny experience over older childcare roles. The reality is that families want to see consistent, up-to-date experience caring for children, and gaps in childcare work can raise questions during the hiring process. Here's why nanny agencies f...

When families think about interviews, they often focus on evaluating the nanny.
But here’s something important:
Nanny interviews go both ways.
A professional nanny isn’t just answering questions.
She’s observing.
She’s paying attention to:
• How clearly the role is explained
• How structured expectations are
• How communication flows
• Whether respect is mutual
• How boundaries are discussed
The nanny interview process sets the tone for the entire working relationship.
The families who experience the longest, healthiest placements understand this:
It’s not just about finding someone qualified.
It’s about building trust from the very first conversation.
If you’re currently interviewing or preparing to hire, this blog will help you understand what strong interviews actually look like — and why they matter more than you think.

Nanny Interviews Go Both Ways: Understanding the Nanny Interview Process
The nanny interview process is not one-sided. Families aren't the only ones evaluating. Here's what professional nannies are really observing during interviews.

Hi Nashville families & nannies! 🤍
I want to gently address something that keeps coming up in my inbox.
I’ve received several messages from nannies who applied for positions, completed interviews, rearranged schedules… and then never heard back.
No follow-up. No closure.
If you’ve moved forward with another candidate; congratulations on filling your role. Truly.
But communication still matters.
In the corporate world, most people would expect some kind of response if they interviewed and weren’t selected. A simple email. A quick message. Closure.
Nannies deserve that same professional respect.
Many nannies will even ask for feedback so they can grow. That only happens when communication is open.
Silence leaves people hopeful and waiting, and in a community like Nashville, professionalism travels just as fast as word of mouth.
I wrote a blog about this because I think it’s an important conversation for our industry:

We can’t offer every applicant a position.
But we can always offer clarity.
Why Nanny Candidate Communication Matters More Than You Think
Nanny candidate communication defines professionalism. Rejection isn't the issue-- silence is. Ethical hiring requires respectful follow-up.

Nannies, this is your reminder that you are a professional, not a favor.
Industry standards exist for a reason. Accepting pay far below them often comes with burnout, disrespect, and blurred boundaries.
And just as families ask you for references, it is absolutely appropriate for you to ask families for references as well; including speaking with a prior nanny or other people who can vouch for them.
If a family is unwilling or becomes defensive about that request, that alone may be your answer.
Not every family is a bad fit, and some are hiring for the first time… but transparency and mutual respect should always exist on both sides.
Know your worth. Vet families the same way they vet you.

Cyber Monday AND our 5th birthday… so we’re doing something we haven’t done since 2020. For the next 24 hours, the first 5 families to sign up will receive a full nanny placement for just $1,000.
Our standard placement rate is 15% of the nanny’s annual salary, which averages about $7,800 for a full-time role. For this one-day celebration, families save $6,800 on professional placement services.
If you’ve been thinking about hiring a nanny at the beginning of the year, this timing is perfect. Our turnaround time is 30–60 days, and we serve families in Nashville and anyone located within an hour of Nashville.
Working with a nanny agency takes the stress out of the process. We handle the vetting, background checks, reference calls, interviews, trial days, contract support, and matching based on your family’s needs and values. You also get access to reliable backup care through our sitter network, so you’re never left scrambling.
This special ends December 1st at 6 PM CST or once five families claim their spot. Once they’re gone, they’re gone; and this pricing won’t return. If you’re planning ahead for 2026, this is the moment to move.
Ready to secure one of the five spots? Send us a message, click the link in our bio, or call us today at (615) 603-1122.

💛 Sometimes grace looks like letting others help.
This year, Tried & True Nannies is launching something close to our hearts… our Family Sponsorship Program. Each year, we’ll cover one family’s nanny placement fee so they can focus on what really matters: faith, family, and healing.
Our very first sponsored family is walking through unimaginable loss; and as a community, we’re stepping up to lighten the load.
Next year, we’ll open nominations right here on social media. You’ll be able to share a family’s story, tag them, or message us directly. One Middle Tennessee family will be selected annually to receive this blessing.
Because love in action is what truly changes lives. 🤍
📍Middle Tennessee families only
