This is where it started.
Animal Rescue was one of the very first things we as a nonprofit ever did. After Hurricanes Irma and Maria, two back to back category 5 storms that annihilated the British Virgin Islands, we rescued 78 puppies and 12 kittens. From there, the work expanded to rescuing horses out of kill pens, off racetracks where they had been left to die, and out of situations of starvation and abandonment.
We brought them in. We rehabilitated them. And then something unexpected happened.
The animals we saved started saving people.
Today, the same horses, ponies, and rescue animals that were once too afraid to be touched are the ones meeting our most vulnerable participants every single week.
Children with autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and developmental delays who find their balance, voice, and confidence with an animal that meets them exactly where they are.
Children carrying stories of physical and sexual abuse that they cannot yet tell, who find safety, agency, and worth in the presence of an animal that has also known fear.
Women survivors who learn to lead, set boundaries, and rebuild trust in their own body alongside a herd that listens without judgment.
Veterans and first responders carrying PTSD, traumatic brain injury, suicidal ideation, and trauma layered on top of trauma, who experience clarity, release, and reconnection in a single session. Because here, you do not have to speak. The horse already feels what you cannot say.
This is what your support funds.
The is sponsored by , a privately owned resort that shares the island and donates its land and original infrastructure to the nonprofit at no cost. Resort guests who book equine experiences make donations that flow directly back into community programming, making the resort one of our largest annual funders of this program. Because of this model, every session for the children, the women, and the Heroes we serve is provided free of charge.
