As we celebrate our countryâs 250th anniversary, Florida rejects the concerted efforts to malign our nationâs history, distort the principles of the founding, and demonize our founders. Today, I was proud to proclaim George Washingtonâs birthday a state holiday to honor Americaâs indispensable man. For Washingtonâs Birthday Weekend (February 12-16), Floridians can enjoy free admission to all state parks and other state-owned public lands.
We are also launching the America 250 Florida essay contest, which will allow students throughout the state to enter for the chance to receive a scholarship to any of our state colleges or universities.
We are planning a series of additional events, exhibits, and opportunities statewide for Floridians to celebrate the âSpirit of â76.â Visit America250FL.com, the official hub for our year-long commemoration of America, to stay informed about where to join in the festivities.
