Today we learned about chicken egg development in our Embrology class! We learned that chicks take 21 days to be fully developed. The mama hen will run her eggs 3x a day. Fertile egg yolks have a bullseye ring around the white dot in the yolk.
Then we followed up the lesson with a fun chicken egg hatching craft! π£
We hope to be announcing more classes in the next month or so. If you have any fun class ideas that you think your kids will enjoy, please feel free to message me! π

Our bee class was an overwhelming success!! π We had 51 homeschool students show up!! π³ππ₯° I'm so thankful, it was such a great turn out! However, from here on out, we will start having capacities of 20 students per class so we can fit in the classroom better.
π Here are a few things we learned from the ag extension officer during our lesson today:
1. Honey bees help pollinate and make farmers and plants more productive. π»
2. Honey is basically vomit.. π³
3. There are 3 casts in a hive; the worker, queen, and drone.
4. A queen bee lays 8 eggs per MINUTE! π€―
5. The queen π has a stinger but does not use it because it has been modified to lay eggs.
6. The worker bees (female bees) will sting you to protect the queen when they feel you are a threat. They lose their stinger when they stinger you and the bee dies because it's stinger gets stuck in your skin.
7. Humans started farming and domesticating honey bees 10,000 years ago! Christopher Columbus transported them from the region near Turkey and Irag by ship. π’
8. Bees can see colors that we cannot see. They have thousands of eyes compounded into their eyes on their face.
9. Bees have a 3rd eye that faces the sun, this eye absorbs energy from the sun to guide the bee like GPS, so the bee understands where it is.
10. They use their antennas to communicate.
And a bonus fact, bees are from the fly family! πͺ° π πͺ° π
I hope everyone enjoyed class today! βΊοΈ
