Curious about Building Science? Let’s break down the BPI Building Science Principles (BSP) Certificate!

Whether you’re looking to break into the green building industry or want to sharpen your professional credentials, this nationally recognized certificate is a game-changer. Here is the who, what, and why behind the BPI BSP:

WHO is it for?
Contractors & Installers: HVAC, insulation, and window pros wanting to master everyday technical terms.
Real Estate Professionals & Home Inspectors: Realtors, appraisers, and inspectors who want to spot green features and understand home performance.
Sales & Support Staff: Office personnel and sales representatives looking to build instant trust with homeowners.
Industry Beginners: Anyone ready to take their first step into energy efficiency and home performance careers.

WHAT is it?
The BSP is an introductory, foundational certificate earned through a 100-question multiple-choice exam (prepped via in-person classes or though a self-paced online course or reference materials). It teaches the "house-as-a-system" concept, covering:
How the building envelope, heating, cooling, and ventilation interact
Air leakage, heat transfer, and moisture control
Combustion safety and indoor air quality (IAQ)
Why energy efficiency comes before solar or other renewables

WHY get certified?
Boost Your Credibility: Earn third-party validation from the Building Performance Institute (BPI).
Grow Your Business: Speak fluently with customers, answer technical questions with confidence, and upsell home upgrades.
No Expiration: Once you pass, you own the certificate for life—no renewals or recurring expiration dates.
The Ultimate Stepping Stone: It acts as the ideal baseline knowledge before moving on to advanced credentials like the BPI Building Analyst - Technician or Professional.

As late summer humidity peaks, sweating HVAC ducts become a common and costly headache for homeowners.

When hot, sticky air meets cold supply ducts in unconditioned spaces like attics, basements, or crawlspaces, condensation builds up quickly. Over time, that extra moisture can cause water damage, destroy insulation, and trigger mold growth.

If you’ve noticed dripping around your vents, unusual indoor humidity, or just have general concerns about how your home is handling the summer heat, don't leave it to guesswork! A Home Performance Test from Insight uses advanced diagnostic tools like thermal imaging and blower doors to pinpoint hidden air leaks, insulation gaps, and moisture risks.

Protect your indoor air quality and keep your home running efficiently. Call Insight today to get your home performance assessment scheduled! (630)283-2248

Stop checking relative humidity! If you want to know how muggy and sticky it actually feels outside, dew point is the real number to look at. ☀️🌡️

Here’s why:
Relative Humidity changes throughout the day based on temperature. Even as the afternoon heats up and humidity percentages drop, the moisture in the air often stays the exact same.
Dew Point tells you the actual amount of water v***r in the air—and how easily your sweat can ev***rate to cool you down.

We have been talking a lot about BPI IDL lately, so let us break down what this credential means. BPI IDL stands for the Building Performance Institute Infiltration and Duct Leakage certification.
In this training you will learn:
- How to test for air leaks and duct tightness in homes
- How to blower door test
- How to measure duct energy loss
This helps you make homes more energy efficient while adding a trusted badge to your resume. This certification renews every three years.
To help you succeed, we are releasing a field guide video very soon. This upcoming student video will walk you through step-by-step testing tips so you can prepare for your exams with confidence. Stay tuned for the release and get ready to pass fast!
We also teach the Illinois specific version of IDL; Duct and Envelope Tightness Verifier and have an open enrollment scheduled for September 2nd: https://forms.gle/5L52kpVhf27Y8gXx8
