Dr. Cody Hunter represented the SFA Bassoon Studio by giving a masterclass and performing with Fox Products artist Susan Miranda at the 2026 International Duo Symposium in Costa Rica. It was great to meet friends, old and new, and connect with bassoonists in a different part of the world. Special thank you to hosts Fernando Zúñiga-Chanto and Orquídea Guandique-Araniva for a fantastic experience.

SFA’s Azalea Wind Quintet gave a fantastic recital of a program comprised solely of female composers. The Azaleas showcase the artistic spirit that is representative of the students in the SFA School of Music.

BRAVI TUTTI! The SFA bassoons performed beautifully in the wind ensemble and symphonic band concerts. As we near the end of the semester, it is always an honor to hear their progress from the audience.

Congratulations to the SFA Bassoon Studio for an excellent studio recital! A lot of “firsts”for many, but wonderful repertoire and music making.

Spring 2026 is off to a great start! Our studio has been hard at work- the SFASO gave their first concert last night and the bassoon section sounded great with some really tricky parts. The concert bands are preparing for their concerts coming up in the next few days and our Wind Ensemble is gearing up for their performance at CBDNA.
TMEA was another success- working with the 5A all state band bassoon section is always an honor. And it is always so wonderful meeting with friends and alumni.

SFA Bassoons had so many wonderful performances in the last few weeks with symphonic band, wind symphony, wind ensemble, chamber ensembles, and the symphony orchestra. Great job representing the studio!

We had two fantastic guest masterclasses and performances in the second half of October. Shih-Min Tang (Texas Chamber Winds) and Keegan Hockett (Wild Prairie Winds) shared their expertise with the studio and had wonderfully engaging evening performances.
