🎵 SUNDAY HYMNS 🎵

🌿 This Is My Father’s World 🌿

Have you ever taken a walk through the woods, watched a beautiful sunrise, listened to birds singing, or stood beside a quiet lake~and simply stopped to take it all in?
Sometimes creation has a way of reminding us just how wonderful our Creator is.

Today's Sunday Hymn is “This Is My Father’s World,” written by Maltbie D. Babcock, a Presbyterian minister who lived from 1858–1901.

Babcock had a particular love for the beauty of God's creation. While serving as a pastor in Lockport, New York, he often walked along the Niagara Escarpment overlooking the beautiful countryside and Lake Ontario. When he went for these walks, he would tell his wife that he was “going out to see my Father's world.” Those walks helped inspire the poem that eventually became this beloved hymn.

The poem was originally much longer—sixteen stanzas—and was published after Babcock's death in 1901. His friend Franklin L. Sheppard later adapted a traditional English melody and set the words to music in 1915. The tune is known as TERRA BEATA, meaning “blessed earth.”

🎶 “This is my Father’s world,
And to my listening ears,
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.”
What a beautiful reminder that creation itself can point our hearts toward God.

The hymn doesn't simply celebrate beautiful scenery. It reminds us that God is still sovereign—even when the world around us feels broken or uncertain.
One of my favorite thoughts in the hymn is:
💙 “This is my Father's world…
Oh, let me ne'er forget

That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the Ruler yet.”
What a powerful message for us today.

🌿 Sunday Reflection

This week, take a moment to step outside.

Listen.
Look.

Notice the trees, the birds, the clouds, the changing light.
And remember:
This is my Father's world.
The beauty around us can become an invitation to slow down, give thanks, and remember the One who created it all.

🎵 Sunday Hymns 🎵

God Be With You Till We Meet Again

Some hymns feel like a prayer.
“God Be With You Till We Meet Again” is one of them.
Written in 1880 by Jeremiah Eames Rankin, a Congregational minister, this beloved hymn grew out of a simple but meaningful phrase used when saying goodbye.
Rankin wanted to put those words of farewell into a hymn—a prayer that when people parted, they would remember that God's presence would go with them until they met again.
The familiar words begin:

🎶 “God be with you till we meet again;
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
With His sheep securely fold you;
God be with you till we meet again.”
What makes this hymn so special is its simplicity.
It doesn't promise that life will always be easy. Instead, it offers something much more comforting—the assurance that God is with us wherever we go.
We say goodbye to people throughout our lives.
Children grow up and leave home. Friends move away. Students graduate. Families gather and then go their separate ways. Sometimes goodbyes are temporary, and sometimes they are much harder.

This hymn gives us words for those moments.
It reminds us that although we may not know what the next season will bring, we can pray for God's guidance, protection, and presence.

💙 Sunday Reflection
Is there someone you haven't seen in a long time?
Someone who is beginning a new chapter?
Someone you are saying goodbye to?

Today, let this hymn become your prayer for them:
“God be with you till we meet again.”
And perhaps that is one of the beautiful gifts of hymns—they give us words when our own words aren't enough.

🎵 Sunday Hymns 🎵

O God, Our Help in Ages Past

Some hymns remind us that while the world around us is constantly changing, God remains our unchanging refuge.
Today's featured hymn, "O God, Our Help in Ages Past," was written by Isaac Watts in 1708. Often called the "Father of English Hymnody," Watts wrote more than 700 hymns, many of which continue to be sung in churches around the world today.
This hymn is a poetic reflection on Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses that contrasts the fleeting nature of human life with the eternal faithfulness of God. Psalm 90 begins with these comforting words:

"Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations." — Psalm 90:1
The opening verse of the hymn echoes that timeless truth:
"O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home."

What a beautiful reminder that every generation has faced uncertainty, loss, change, and challenges. Yet through every season of history, God has remained faithful. He has been the refuge of His people, the source of their strength, and the foundation of their hope.

More than 300 years after Isaac Watts penned these words, this hymn continues to encourage believers to place their confidence not in the changing circumstances of life, but in the God who never changes.

💙 Sunday Reflection:
Take a moment today to reflect on God's faithfulness in your own life. Think back to a season when He carried you through uncertainty or gave you strength when you needed it most. The same God who was faithful then is faithful today—and He will be faithful in the years to come.
