Pilot & happy to talk about wine, but not at the same time! ;) On January 5, 2014, Maddi Olson, a 15 yr old Murrieta resident, made a decision that would change her life. She was involved in a skateboarding accident and her chances of survival were slim. She spent 3 weeks in a coma and had to relearn all of her motor skills. She has been lovingly called "Miracle Maddi" by those that followed her s

tory and the doctor that lead her recovery. With prayer and support from friends and family and the hands of her medical teams Maddi has come further than ever expected. She now has a new focus...
To overcome the struggles her TBI (traumatic brain injury) presents to her and to be an advocate for wearing helmets. Maddi spoke at her first middle school presentation November 5th. She has hopes that her story can influence others to protect their own futures. It can save a life. "I shouldn't have to tell you to wear a helmet." It’s been a minute.

“7 years ago” (thank you, FB memories)

Maddi was granted a free day to leave Rady’s and have a small dose of the outside world. After signing loads of paperwork, she and I took a drive to a theater in Del Mar. That was one of the most anxious drives I’ve ever made. She still wore a helmet to protect her exposed brain (a portion of her skull remained at CHOC) and her motor skills were still developing. My nerves were everywhere and extremely raw.

As we walked up to the theater, Maddi rushed ahead to open the door for me and the family behind us. I waited and watched as she continued to stand in the doorway as people walked past her. With every “thank you” her smile grew. I stood there wondering what people were thinking of this young woman holding the door for them...they had no idea the trauma she had just survived and the importance of that moment. Yet, I’ll never forget it.

It was so intense and beautiful.

6 years.

It’s easy to become numb and fall into routines. A comfort zone is the most dangerous place to dwell.

Maddi was prepping to leave for work and I offered to blow dry her thick, waist-long hair. As I sectioned her hair I came across “the” spot, a small area where her surgeries left scar tissue and no longer grows hair. It’s not noticeable and I had forgotten it existed.

My heart softened immediately and the mundane chore of helping my daughter became a blessing that almost went unnoticed.

I pray that I never take a day for granted...or find myself too comfortable to appreciate His blessings.

Maddi found a new passion...

Why do I continue to post her accomplishments? My intention is to provide hope to anyone who might be in a dark place. ..to show that miracles are possible...to spark inspiration to keep moving forward...most importantly, to share the power of prayer and God’s love.

His miracles didn’t stop with the Bible...He continues to answer prayers today.
