IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: MURPHY HIGH SCHOOL

Due to an expected heat index of over 100° tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, and despite our continued efforts to resolve the air conditioning issue at Murphy High School, Murphy High School will be closed to students tomorrow.

Any MHS students who attends the Career Academy has their own transportation to CCSI, they are welcome to attend, but buses will not be transporting to/from MHS for the Career Academy. If a MHS student does not have their own transportation to CCSI, they will not be counted absent.

We know this is not the news anyone wanted to hear, particularly as we begin a new school year, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption this may cause for our students, families, and staff. However, the health and safety of our students and employees must remain our highest priority.

Our Maintenance Department has worked throughout the day, alongside a contracted HVAC specialist, making every effort to identify and resolve the issue. Unfortunately, those efforts were not successful today. Our Maintenance team and the specialist will continue working tomorrow in an effort to restore the air conditioning as quickly as possible.

Athletics:
At this time, the Volleyball and JV Football games will continue as scheduled. Players will be contacted directly if circumstances require a change to that plan.

Staff:
Staff members will have the option to work alternative, earlier hours tomorrow, with prior approval from Mrs. Leatherwood. Staff will also have the option to work from areas of the school where air conditioning is functioning.

We recognize the inconvenience this creates and greatly appreciate the patience, flexibility, and understanding of our students, families, and staff. We are committed to doing everything possible to have Murphy High School ready to welcome students back as soon as conditions are safe and comfortable.

We’re excited to welcome Health Science I & II back to the Cherokee County School of Innovation this fall! After being unavailable for more than a year, students once again have the opportunity to explore exciting careers in health care.
👏 A big shoutout to Mr. Pace, who added Health Science to his NC teaching license over the summer to bring this program back to our students!
💬 “We have a need, and there is a huge interest in Health Science.”
And this is more than just a classroom course! Students will have opportunities to earn valuable credentials, including:

🩸 Stop the Bleed
💼 Workplace Readiness Credential
🏥 OSHA 10 – Health Care
⚙️ Certified Production Technician (CPT)
