Breast cancer breakthroughs often begin years before they reach patients, with a specimen someone chose to collect, preserve, and protect.

Conservation biobanks manage collections that clinical systems were never designed to handle.

A biobank can pass every audit and still have problems no one has found.

An audit confirms that the records and specimens reviewed met the requirements. But what about what no one reviewed: a sample in a back freezer, a specimen tied to a closed protocol, or inventory managed by someone who left years ago?

The strongest biobanks don’t prepare for audits. They operate as if any specimen could be reviewed tomorrow. Every transaction is documented, every sample has a clear history, and information is accessible when needed.

Somewhere today, a child is sitting in a clinic, holding a parent’s hand, about to contribute to research they are too young to fully understand.

They may never see the results. They may never know which study their contribution supported. Years from now, it could help another child in another city.

Academic core facilities need shared infrastructure without sacrificing local autonomy.

Two systems drift apart the moment they stop being updated simultaneously.

Sample tracking lives in one system. Test results live somewhere else. The records may start aligned, but eventually become unreconciled.

We're looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join our team at Freezerworks.

You’ll work directly with lab and biobank IT teams on deployments, troubleshooting, and support for our sample management platform, including a major new release.

It’s a hands-on role for someone who understands infrastructure, likes solving customer problems, and wants to work closely with the product. The samples our customers manage support research that changes lives, so getting the details right matters.

One of the biggest misconceptions in laboratory operations is that standardization means everyone has to work the same way.

It doesn't.

That’s often where governance conversations get stuck before they really start.

True standardization isn't about forcing every research group into one workflow. It's about creating consistency where it matters—and flexibility where it doesn't.

One group may collect samples differently than another. Another may organize freezer layouts or accessioning workflows differently.

That’s expected.

What shouldn’t change is the foundation underneath:

• A consistent audit trail
• Clear chain of custody
• A reliable data model

In the multi-group biobanks we work with, this distinction is clearest during an audit. Different workflows can still support one consistent compliance story when they’re built on shared governance.

The labs that scale successfully don’t standardize every process.

They standardize the infrastructure that supports those processes.

The easiest software migrations usually begin long before anyone starts migrating data.

They start with preparation.

The labs that have the smoothest transitions into Freezerworks 2 usually have three things figured out before the first migration conversation.

2️⃣ They’ve taken an honest look at their existing data.

Migration brings your records forward exactly as they exist today. Cleaning up duplicate entries, inconsistent fields, or outdated locations beforehand is far easier than fixing them afterward.

3️⃣ They’ve decided how they’ll validate the new environment.

Those steps don’t take long.

But they make the upgrade conversation much more productive.
