“But I’m tracking everything!”
Are you really tracking everything… or are you estimating?
One of the simplest tools you can use when working toward a nutrition or weight loss goal is something you probably already have —or can grab from Amazon for $10–$20:
A FOOD SCALE.
You’d be surprised what your “¾ cup” actually is. 😬
🥣 That ¾ cup of yogurt you eyeballed? It might be closer to a cup.
🥜 That tablespoon of peanut butter? It can VERY easily become two.
🧀 A “little” cheese sprinkled on top? It adds up.
🥗 Dressing, creamer, cooking oils, sauces, handfuls of snacks… they all count.
And none of these foods are ‘bad’. That’s not the point.
The point is accuracy and awareness.
Research consistently shows that people tend to underestimate how much they eat/drink, especially when portions are estimated instead of measured. And those little differences can quietly add hundreds of calories throughout the day.
That matters when you have a goal.
If you think you’re eating 1,700 calories, but your portions actually put you closer to 2,000–2,200, you may feel like your plan “isn’t working.”
The plan may be working perfectly.
The numbers just aren’t the numbers you think they are.
And measuring your food does NOT have to be complicated.
Put your bowl or plate on the scale.
Hit ZERO.
Add your food.
Log the grams.
Done. ✔️
It takes seconds.
You don’t have to weigh and measure every bite of food for the rest of your life. But spending some time doing it can teach you what portions actually look like and that knowledge is incredibly valuable.
Your goals don’t require perfection.
They do require enough consistency and accuracy to know what you’re actually doing.
Measure it. Track it. Learn from it. Adjust when needed.
Because sometimes the difference between “I’m doing everything right and nothing is happening” and finally seeing progress…
is a $15 food scale. 😉💪🏼
