Be the Difference. Create the Effect. Student of the Week, Mya Jackson! Mya was nominated by our English department for exemplifying the TRIBE anchor of Engaged. They had this to say about Mya,

"Even this early in the year, Mya has emerged as a leader in English class discussions. She is always willing to answer a question, and she works assiduously at both reading and writing tasks. If an instruction or a concept is unclear, she does not hesitate to advocate for herself and ask for help. She is a clear model for engagement in English class. Mya has stayed after class to make sure textbooks were neatly organized on the bookshelf, which is incredibly helpful to all of us."

Congratulations Mya! Thank you to Amazin' Grazin' for sponsoring our gift to Mya!

💙❤MCHS Press❤💙

- Ms. Sturgill’s 4th period earth and space science participating in an activity trying to determine how the sun makes energy.
- Mr. Gray’s 3rd period Advanced Drawing Class
- Mrs. Given's AP Human Geography students have been practicing map-reading. Learning to read a map key and using map scale.
- Students making beds in life skills, painting and drawing in Art, shooting hoops in PE, being a TEAM, and kids working in Child Development learning about how to be professional
- AP Literature students are creating two-line scenes using student-selected quotes from Ernest Hemingway.
- JAG students participated in a school community service activity, placing the Bill of Rights in each classroom this week. The students did amazing!
- 🎨 Art students were kicking off the new school year by getting to know what makes each of our artists uniquely them! Students are reflecting on their interests, personalities, and goals for the year before bringing it all together in one HUGE collaborative doodle filled with a little piece of everyone! ✏️✨
- Mr. Sparks’s English 1 and English 3 students did word association with the new TRIBE anchors in an effort to take ownership of those anchors and make them more personal. At the end of the activity each student wrote 1 word, from each anchor, that they are going to embody this school year.
- Students in Mrs. Allison’s personal finance classes created Math Cafe Menus this week. Students had to complete a business plan that included a menu for customers. They had to invite customers to their food truck where they then problem solved to calculate a menu discount, sales tax, and a tip based on their food orders.
- Mrs. Given's U.S. History students explored westward expansion and its impact on Native Americans through art. After creating artwork inspired by assigned excerpts, students matched their peers’ artwork to the excerpt they felt best represented it. This activity encouraged historical thinking, interpretation, and empathy through a creative lens.
- Mr. Hamilton’s MCHS Female Singers are starting the year off on the right note! They sound amazing and we look forward to hearing more from them this year!
- Teams in English 1 classes worked collaboratively to learn each other’s names and commonalities that they shared. Each piece of paper represented one commonality shared within their team.
- Students touring MCTC where they visited a Physical Therapy Assistant classroom, an industrial maintenance classroom , and a small group activity in the criminal justice lab. They got to learn hands-on about police equipment and fingerprinting.
