And it’s time for our last summer check-in! Let’s see what Olive has been up to 🎵🔥

“This summer I have been busy teaching my private students, spending as much time in nature as I can, and I even got to be a camp counselor at CMU’s Summer Music Institute. Playing music with students has been the biggest joy of my summer so far. I have also gotten to enjoy spending time with family, making art with my cats, camping with my partner, and playing my secondary instrument, the banjo!

“Hey everyone! My name is Sawyer Hamilton and I’m a Music Education Major here at CMU. This summer I got the opportunity to play at the BayView Chamber Music Festival where I worked on Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 and Haydn’s Sunrise Quartet with a quartet of amazing musicians. Thanks to all the great people I met at BayView who helped me grow as a person and a musician.“

Who’s to return to CMU in a month? Our MASTA chapter is! 🔥🆙

Let’s see what our members have been up to this summer… starting with Paige Baird!

“Hello! My name is Paige, I play the viola and I’m a Instrumental Music Education Major here at CMU. This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Italy to study with Dr. Alicia Valoti, the viola professor here at CMU, as well as Dr. Hasse Borup and his wife Dr. Kasia Sokol-Borup from the University of Utah. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to grow as a violist and visit such a beautiful country at the same time! Special thanks to all of my new friends at the University of Utah, getting to create music and explore Italy with them was an incredible experience.

Highlight: While on this trip, I got to meet up with a friend who lives in Italy. We met during her time as a foreign exchange student during high school, and I’m so happy that 4 years later we were able to see each other again!”

MASTA is holding a fundraiser at Ignite Donuts on Wednesday, April 29th, from 5-9 PM! Tickets are $10 for a 12-oz drink and a classic donut. You may purchase a ticket in advance online (https://www.ignitedonuts.com/event-details/asta-fundraiser) or at the event itself. We would love to have your support for Central Michigan’s American String Teacher Association, as the proceeds will go towards expenses for conferences next year, like MMC and the National ASTA Conference!
