I grew up in this exact gym. My dad coached for 20-30 years. And my mom was an athletic trainer at a neighboring high school for about the same amount of time. I have memories of practicing gymnastics on these mats and shooting hoops in the gym a lot of nights and weekends. I took the bus with them on away matches and games. My parents athletes were all built in older siblings and babysitters.
I wont choose the sports my kids play- but I will surround them in as many sports as possible. Sports opened so many doors for me.
I always joke that Field hockey got me to college. I wasn’t the brightest kid in the classroom but I worked hard. Field hockey got me a masters. Again, I didn’t graduate with a 4.0- it was sports that gave me the opportunity.
Field hockey and my connections in sports lead me to this career. It wasn’t planned. It just happened and I have to give credit to sports.
Just an appreciation post for how I was raised and I how I hope to raise my kids. There are no better people to have your family around than people in sport.
