The Friends of Georgia Archives & History, formed in 2004, is a not-for-profit organization that supports and enhances the programs of the Georgia Archives and the Georgia Capitol Museum. By underwriting education programs, public lectures, internships, exhibits, and digitization projects the Friends enhance public awareness of the treasures to be found at the Archives and Capitol. The Friends strive to bring life to the documents and artifacts through programs that focus on those who created them, the significance of their creation, and the impact they had on the lives of ancestors and modern-day citizens.

Join us at the Georgia Archives on Friday, September 11 at 12 pm for our next Lunch & Learn with Kathleen O'Neal and Liz Riley, creators of the Rose Hill Cemetery Project.

Learn how two friends fell down a rabbit hole of Macon history while inventorying graves in Rose Hill Cemetery. What began as a simple idea grew into an ambitious mission to create a free, searchable online database of every burial in the cemetery.

The program is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

What should you expect on your first visit to the Georgia Archives?

When you arrive, you will check in at the security desk and register to use the Reference Room. Some personal items are not permitted inside, but we have lockers are available on-site so you can store them during your visit.

Once you are registered, Reference Staff can help you get oriented, explain how to use finding aids, and show you how to request records.

You do not need to know exactly where every record is located before you come. Bring the names, places, dates, and questions you already have, and be prepared to follow the research one step at a time.

As the nation marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, weโ€™re looking back at how Georgians have celebrated Independence Day over the years.

The exhibit explores Georgiaโ€™s connection to the Declaration through the lives of Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, and George Walton, as well as Georgiaโ€™s recorded copy of the Declaration of Independence.

Georgiaโ€™s recorded copy will be on display for public viewing on four select dates only: May 15, June 12, June 30, and July 10. Admission is free.
