As we kick off the 2026-2027 school year, we want to take a moment to recognize the student-athletes who were selected by their coaches as Athletes of the Month at the conclusion of last year's spring athletic season. These athletes demonstrated outstanding dedication, leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to their teams both in competition and in practice.

Please join us in congratulating our final Spring Athletes of the Month of 2026!

**Allison Stewart**, nominated as a sophomore, is a dedicated three-sport athlete who competes in softball, field hockey, and volleyball. She is also involved in Yearbook Club, Student Council, Chorus, and serves as her class treasurer. Her favorite sports movie is *Remember the Titans*, her favorite food is chicken quesadillas, and she gets ready for competition by listening to "Laugh Now Cry Later" by Drake. Allison's advice to younger athletes is to "put in the effort, trust the process, and be confident in the athlete you are." One of her favorite memories is enjoying team dinners at seniors' houses with her field hockey teammates. She would like to thank her teachers, coaches, teammates, and especially her mother for their encouragement and support. After graduation, Allison plans to attend college to study special education.

**Michael Boyle**, nominated as a junior, competed in indoor track and baseball. His favorite sports movie is *The Benchwarmers*, his favorite food is spaghetti, and he gets ready for competition by listening to "Hideaway" by Daya. Michael's advice to younger athletes is simple: "Always work hard." One of his favorite athletic memories was defeating South Lewis in the quarterfinals last year. He would like to thank his parents for helping him get to where he is today and for supporting him throughout his athletic career. Outside of athletics, Michael has continued to develop his passion for sports and plans to attend college to study sports management after graduation.

**Allyson McConville**, nominated as a junior, competes in softball and field hockey and is also involved in FFA. Her favorite sports movie is *The Sandlot*, her favorite foods are steak and sushi, and her favorite song is whatever Abby has playing on the speaker. Allyson's advice to younger athletes is to "always push yourself and give 100% in practice." One of her favorite athletic memories is winning in sectionals against Little Falls, a moment that she will always remember. She would like to thank her mom and friends for helping her get to where she is today and for always supporting her. After graduation, Allyson plans to attend college to study dairy science and continue pursuing her interests beyond high school.

**William Dapson**, nominated as a sophomore, is a dedicated three-sport athlete who competes in football, basketball, and baseball. He is also active in supporting the Sports Boosters and Optimist Club and participates in Student Council. His favorite sports movie is *The Sandlot*, his favorite food is steak, and he gets ready for competition by listening to "We Found Love" by Rihanna. William's advice to younger athletes is to "have fun while it lasts." His favorite athletic memory is winning the state championship in football, an accomplishment that stands out as a highlight of his athletic career. He would like to thank his family for helping him get to where he is today and for their continued support. When asked about his plans after graduation, William kept it simple—he plans to "start making money!"

Congratulations to Allison Stewart, Michael Boyle, Allyson McConville, and William Dapson! We are proud to recognize their dedication, accomplishments, and contributions to the MECS athletic community. We wish them continued success both on and off the field as we begin another great school year!

Now that the spring athletic season has come to a close, we would like to take a moment to recognize the student-athletes selected by their coaches as Athletes of the Month during the spring season. These athletes demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to their teams both in competition and in practice.

Please join us in congratulating our April Athletes of the Month, Esther Armstrong and Shane Stewart!

Esther Armstrong, an 11th-grade student at MECS, is a dedicated multi-sport athlete who competes in soccer for Stockbridge Valley during the fall and track and field in the spring. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Esther is actively involved in the MECS Drama Club, demonstrating her commitment both on the field and on the stage.

Esther's favorite sports movie is McFarland, USA, her favorite food is sushi, and she gets ready for competition by listening to "Centuries" by Fall Out Boy.

Her sports idol is her older brother, whose determination and perseverance continue to inspire her. Watching him overcome challenges and continue his soccer career at the collegiate level has motivated Esther to push herself and embrace a healthy sibling rivalry.

When asked what advice she would give younger athletes, Esther said, "Do the sport that makes you happy, not the sport that everyone else plays."

One of Esther's favorite high school athletic memories is simply being a part of the track team. She shared that every track meet, no matter how cold the weather may be, is filled with laughter, fun, and memories alongside her teammates.

Esther would like to thank her mother and her brothers for always supporting her, providing advice, and pushing her to be the best version of herself.

After graduation, Esther plans to attend college to study forestry and hopes to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level.

Shane Stewart, a senior at MECS, is a dedicated three-sport athlete who competes in soccer for Stockbridge Valley, and both indoor track and outdoor track at MECS. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Shane is also an active member of the MECS Drama Club, demonstrating his commitment to both athletics and the arts.

Shane's favorite sports movie is The Benchwarmers, his favorite meal is chicken cordon bleu, and before competition he enjoys listening to "Love" by Keyshia Cole.

His sports idol is Quincy Wilson, whose accomplishments at such a young age have inspired Shane to pursue excellence and continue pushing himself to improve.

When asked what advice he would give younger athletes, Shane said, "Get good sleep and drink water."

One of Shane's favorite athletic memories was qualifying for the state qualifier meet during his freshman year, an achievement that left a lasting impact on his high school athletic career.

Shane would like to thank his parents, coaches, and friends for their constant support, encouragement, and belief in him throughout his athletic journey.

After graduation, Shane plans to attend Mohawk Valley Community College to study Physical Education.

Congratulations to Esther Armstrong and Shane Stewart, our April Athletes of the Month! Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence have made a positive impact on the MECS athletic community. We are proud to celebrate your accomplishments and look forward to all that lies ahead for both of you.
