We 💜 our nurse teammates!

Today, we’re celebrating our incredible nursing teammates and the countless ways they strengthen interprofessional care every single day. 💙

Nurses are often the steady thread connecting patients, families, learners, and healthcare teams, bringing compassion, advocacy, clinical expertise, and collaboration to every interaction. Their leadership is essential in building truly patient-centered care.

Through the lens of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies, our nursing colleagues exemplify:

🩺 Values & Ethics – advocating for patients with compassion, dignity, and respect while fostering a culture of shared accountability and empathy.

🤝 Roles & Responsibilities – helping teams understand the unique perspectives and expertise each profession brings to patient care.

💬 Interprofessional Communication – facilitating clear, timely, and respectful communication that keeps teams connected and patients safe.

🌟 Teams & Teamwork – serving as leaders, collaborators, coordinators, and problem-solvers in fast-paced healthcare environments.

We are so grateful for our nursing partners who teach us daily what true collaboration looks like. Thank you for your dedication to learners, patients, and each other — we love our nurse teammates! 👏💛

Wishing all our nurses a Happy National Nurses Day! Thank you, nurses, for all you do. You are truly the heart of healthcare! 💛💙

The sound of music, the rhythm of movement, and the power of teamwork—this is interprofessional education in action. 💛

At West Virginia University, students are coming together across disciplines to support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease through the Parkinson’s Disease Music, Movement, and Voice Group. This innovative initiative brings together learners in speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and music therapy to create meaningful, patient-centered experiences that go beyond traditional care.

Through weekly sessions filled with singing, movement, and connection, students are not only helping participants improve mobility, communication, and coordination—they’re also building essential skills in teamwork, empathy, and collaborative practice.

This is what happens when our IPE Champions lead with creativity, compassion, and a commitment to working together. 💫

We are so proud to celebrate the students and faculty who continue to push the boundaries of interprofessional learning and truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

The beating of drums echoes, followed by the tapping of rhythm sticks. The room fills with movement and sound as patients sing along to “Country Roads.”

As we close out Interprofessional Education (IPE) Month 2026 at WVU Health Sciences, we’re proud to celebrate the people who make this work possible, our IPE champions!

From behind-the-scenes facilitators to innovative student leaders and dedicated faculty teams, this month has been a reminder of what collaboration can truly accomplish. Together, the Office of IPE and its team has delivered impactful learning experiences to more than 1,900 learners across 18 disciplines and five campuses this year alone.

We are especially proud to recognize our 2026 IPE Award recipients:

✨ Excellence in IPE Student Award – Maegan Casimir
Maegan’s leadership transformed a student idea into a thriving, practice-informed Contraceptives Workshop now in its third year. By bringing together students and clinicians, her work strengthens collaboration, builds confidence in patient care, and advances access to contraceptive services. Her impact has reached the national stage, and continues to grow through scholarship and mentorship.

✨ Excellence in IPE Faculty & Staff Award – Interprofessional Faculty Team
Ashleigh Barrickman, Lena Maynor, Mary Stamatakis, Amy Funk, and Ashlee Sowards
For over seven years, this interprofessional team of pharmacists and dental hygienists has led groundbreaking work in interprofessional simulation. Their longitudinal, six-semester series follows a patient across the continuum of care, giving learners a powerful, real-world view of teamwork, communication, and collaborative decision-making.

We also want to recognize Dr. Gina Carbonara Baugh, whose leadership and vision continue to shape and elevate IPE at WVU. Her impact is woven into everything we celebrate.

Cheers to a month of collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose... and to continuing this work all year long!💛💙

As we continue celebrating Interprofessional Education Month, we were proud to host the 3rd Annual IPE Contraceptives Workshop. What an incredible evening it was!

Learners from across disciplines came together to explore contraceptive devices hands-on, deepen their understanding of the legal landscape surrounding contraceptive care, and engage in meaningful discussions about which members of the healthcare team are able to prescribe and provide these services. This is what IPE is all about, learning about, from, and with each other to better serve our patients.

A special congratulations to Maegan, whose leadership and innovation have been instrumental in the success of this workshop. We are thrilled to celebrate her as she receives the Office of Interprofessional Education Excellence in IPE Student Award tomorrow. This an incredibly well-deserved recognition of her impact!

As Maegan graduates, we are excited to welcome Chloe Bonifacio as the new team lead of this Student Innovation Challenge, and we look forward to seeing this workshop continue to grow under her leadership.

Grateful for another inspiring evening of collaboration, curiosity, and shared purpose! 💙
