Calling all West Virginia High School Brass Students!!

We’re excited to host our 6th Annual WVMEA All-State Brass Audition Workshop at WVU, designed to help you strengthen your skills and feel confident as you prepare for the upcoming WVMEA All-State Auditions this December!

During our time together, we’ll work through the required all-state etudes, share smart practice tips, and offer practical strategies to help you feel ready for a successful audition.

This FREE two-and-a-half-hour workshop will be led by:

Robert Sears (WVU Trumpet Faculty)
Albert Houde (WVU Horn Faculty)
Hakeem Bilal (WVU Trombone Faculty)
Carson McTeer (WVU Tuba & Euphonium Faculty)

Yesterday concluded our 5th Annual Summer Brass Academy. What a great week! Bravo, students, on a fine concert and for your eagerness to learn and grow the entire week. YOU are what make this camp so meaningful!

A special, heartfelt thank you goes to our two camp counselors/staff, Haley Smith and Philip Wilfong. Your contribution is invaluable!

Just finished a wonderful day three of the Summer Brass Academy!

The past three days have included sessions on effective breathing, learning to quiet the mind and enhancing focus in music making, warm up sessions, individual instrument masterclasses, large brass ensemble, and chamber music ensemble rehearsals.

Additionally, we’ve had special topic seminars on low brass excerpt and section playing, focused jazz improvisation approaches, and music entrepreneurship and career building.

We have two great days left with a final concert scheduled for Friday, June 13th at 3 pm in the Canady Creative Arts Center. This is open and free to the public. We hope you will join us!!

Attention all brass players graduating grades 8-12! Come join us for our 5th Annual Summer Brass Academy at West Virginia University from June 9-13!

During the camp, students will work closely with WVU Brass Faculty and our 2025 guest trombone artist, Sebastian Vera! If you don’t know Sebastian, you need to. Sebastian is the Principal Trombone of the Pittsburgh Opera and faculty at Duquesne University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. We’re very excited to have him join us!

Students have the option to stay on campus at WVU or commute in daily. Registration deadlines are quickly approaching.

We're excited to announce our 5th Annual Workshop to help prepare high school brass students for WVMEA All-State Auditions!

This FREE two-hour workshop will be led by WVU Brass Faculty:

Robert Sears, trumpet
Albert Houde, horn
Hakeem Bilal, trombone
Carson McTeer, tuba/euphonium

During our time together we will cover the required all-state etudes and provide practice tips and advice on how to effectively prepare for a successful audition.

Today was the last full day of the 2024 ! We spent our time putting the final touches on our concert music, observing the faculty brass ensemble to learn how professionals rehearse together, and finished off with bowling, pool, and other fun activities at the . Tomorrow you can check out the faculty brass quintet at 1pm then the student ensembles at 3pm for some great brass playing!

Day 2 of the is a wrap! The day was filled with group warmups, masterclasses, lessons, and full ensemble rehearsal. Afterwards, we had some free time to enjoy outdoor games and a movie night. Wish you were here? Sign up to join us next year!
