These are just a few clips of Aries leading the team. He had quite a few more assists, steals and rebounds that I was not able to capture on video. Aries was by far the best point guard on the floor last night for both teams. His command of the game was noticeable as his team rallied when he was at the point. When he was out or at shooting guard his team fell back into a double digit deficit. I could tell his teammates respected him as their leader and I really liked seeing that.

I was invited to watch the FHS Girls Soccer Alumni game and so I went to it and saw quite a few of my FHS students. It was nice to see them all out there playing against a very well coached FHS team headed by Coach Lomeli.
It felt oddly familiar standing on the sidelines rooting on my students who are now in their early 20s or close to it.

Mathew Jimenez, Fillmore HS Alum, has been accepted to American University of Antigua College of Medicine - GHT New York track. He will graduate from medical school in 2026 and start his residency then.
Mathew is interested in specializing in neurological medicine but is also considering primary care (pediatrics or internal medicine) so he can give back to the Hispanic community.

I was going through MaxPrep to see how the LA team I used to coach did and came across this score. There is no way this is accurate. It has to be like 48-0. I have never, ever seen a California HS football score this lopsided in my over 50 years of following it.

I saw this on one of my social media feeds and I could not believe it. My experience with Fillmore Flashes and their parents were so good that I consider it one of the best communities I have had the opportunity to work in.

Every school has kids that need more support and attention. The Flashes that fit into that category were such a pleasure to work with and the ones that were not ready for a comprehensive campus were placed into a smaller environment in which they could grow before returning to FHS.

I hope that this unfortunate incident was just a consequence of the Covid school shutdown and not the start of a trend. Great kids, great parents and great community members deserve a safe and orderly high school learning environment.
