Article with a recap of our summer youth program appeared in the 8/21/2026 edition of the Sullivan County Democrat! Also note that much of the supplies and equipment we use has come to us from NRA grants over the years. This year we were fortunate to receive an NRA grant for a youth 12 gauge shotgun and some much needed ammo. The NRA is the largest proponent of youth firearm safety education and training in the world - we are glad to have their support!

The Sullivan County Conservation Club recently completed another summer teaching area kids important firearm safety skills, and providing supervised instruction in .22 rifle shooting, trap shooting, and archery. According to instructor Jay Mendels, this is his 17th summer running this important, informative program through the Conservation Club with the help of a dedicated group of club volunteers. Each Monday evening during July and August, kids met at the club's range for a safety briefing before moving on to their various activities. Many were brand new to fi****ms, so the instructors always make sure to provide a non-competitive, supportive atmosphere to make sure everyone has fun while keeping safety at the forefront.

Still some room left before we close sign-ups for the Conservation Club Summer Youth Shooting Sports Program!
Monday evenings, 5-7pm, starting July 13th and running thru August 17th (6 weeks). It's a firearm safety-oriented course geared toward new and novice shooters, with supervised instruction in .22 rifle, shotgun trap shooting, and archery. Suggested ages 12 and older, but we will consider younger on a case-by-case basis. The purpose is to allow those new to the shooting sports the opportunity to experience these activities in a non-competitive, friendly, positive environment. Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis until full.
