The Arkansas Archeological Survey (ARAS) is a unit of the University of Arkansas System dedicated to education, preservation and research. There are nine ARAS research stations located across the state. The UAM Research Station includes Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, Cleveland, Desha, Drew and Lincoln counties. The Station has a station archeologist and archeological assistant who are responsible for re

search and public service, maintain information on sites and projects, and curate collections from the region. The UAM Research Station provides a variety of services to the general public, educational institutions, and state and federal agencies. This often involves working with avocational archeologists, identifying artifacts, helping landowners identify archeological remains, providing public lectures, and writing popular books and flyers about Arkansas archeology. The UAM Research Station works closely with the Tunican Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society. Station Archeologist - Dr. Matthew P. Rooney

Today we were asked to come document an early nineteenth century family cemetery in Bradley County, and we ended up finding the first evidence for an associated domestic space, which will soon be documented as a new site in our statewide system!

Thank you to volunteers Isaac Morman and Matthew Jackson for helping collect the artifacts.
