Received an email over the weekend about an exhibit about the Negro Leagues spotlighting Red Moore. Red was the oldest Negro Leaguer we interviewed for the film. At 91 he still had this little boy joy about him. He was humble and kind. Met him a few times and will never forget sitting with him in Atlantic City for an event and he and his wife (in their 90s) were enjoying cheese sandwiches on white bread. They were happy to be at the event and didn’t need anything fancy. If you’re near Decatur, GA worth checking out.

Enjoyed a few great phone calls with Rev Greason in 2023. We hoped to get together when we were in Bham. He suggested we go to Red Lobster. Unfortunately the day of our planned lunch he asked to push it to the next day. We were flying out that next day. He’s got lots of stories to share. He grew up down the street from the King family. Yes that King family. He said they lived on the fancy part of the block.
101-year-old Bill Greason, the oldest living Major Leaguer, threw out the first pitch for the Birmingham Barons Thursday night. ❤️
Reverend Greason served in World War II and played alongside Willie Mays with Birmingham in 1948.

You may know Jackie Robinson played in the Negro Leagues before signing with the Dodgers. You may even know he lettered in 4 sports at UCLA. But you probably never saw him in his college football uniform tossing around the ball. This is one of the gems we enjoyed at the The Jackie Robinson Museum. Highly recommend visiting the museum if you're in NYC (or near by).

Visit from 2023 when The Other Boys of Summer did. Barnstorming Tour with Minor League Baseball. Couldn’t be in Bham without going to Rickwood field. The ghosts at the field are palpable.

Felt like flashing back to a visit to Rickwood Field we made in 2023. After this was shot MLB updated the dugouts to accommodate the Rickwood game in 2024. It was necessary in order for them to play an MLB game there. Glad to have spent a little time in the dugout with spirits of the Negro Leaguers the way they experienced it.
