So proud of AJ! He is such an asset to our choir, band, and Music Education programs!

HC Student Plays with Legendary Musician, Yo-Yo Ma

Sunday evening, Huntingdon student, AJ Kelly '28, a music education instrumental major from Montgomery, Alabama, had an experience of a lifetime as a musician, and especially as a cellist. As a fifth season musician in the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, AJ played in the Symphony's special concert event featuring Yo-Yo Ma, playing Antonino Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104.

While AJ is a talented cellist for MSO, he also plays the bass guitar and all the percussion instruments. At Huntingdon, he shares his musical talents in the Scarlet and Grey Marching Band, the Concert Band, Winds Ensemble, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and the Concert Choir. After graduation, AJ plans to teach band or strings at the middle or high school level but he is considering advance degrees for music performance, composition, or conducting.

AJ shared after the concert, "I've been playing the cello for 13 years now. Never once did I think I would get the opportunity to play with the greatest cello player of all time, Yo-Yo Ma on the same stage, at the same time, and get paid to do it. I am truly grateful for my gift that God has blessed me with and a special thanks to the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra for this once in a lifetime opportunity."
