Wildwood Montessori School with Childcare

Our Story

Wildwood Montessori opened its doors in Montevideo, MN September of 2017. The purpose of this organization is to educate children using the Montessori method. Here we discover and build on each child’s interests and strengths in an environment that supports the development of executive function skills like self-regulation, decision making, problem solving and planning. The environment also supports children growing in pro social skills like compassion and empathy. They learn assertive, respectful communication tools to ask for needs/wants, communicate boundaries and communicate requests to others.
Wildwood Montessori grew from the dream of two parents to provide their children with quality, meaningful learning opportunities. Erle and Koreen Thompson moved to Koreen’s hometown of Montevideo, MN from Washington State in November of 2015. Initially they intended to homeschool their children as there was a lack of diverse educational offerings in this rural area. As Koreen began pursuing a graduate degree in Montessori education in the summer of 2016, she found an abundance of inspiration as well as an outpouring of community support. As interest in this type of education grew, the couple’s thinking evolved from homeschooling their children to opening a private not for profit Montessori school in Montevideo.
