The Mid-Atlantic Marine Education Association invites all who teach about water to the 2026 National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) Conference. Join NMEA for the “Meeting of the Waters” in Cambridge, Maryland from July 12-16, 2026. A special Blue Technology Education Workshop, hosted by NOAA Ocean Exploration, will take place July 16th as part of this conference. Scholarships are available to support educator participation in the NMEA conference and workshop.

Summer STEM Fun – ROV Exploration Beyond the Competition

Just because the competition season is over doesn’t mean the underwater adventures have to stop! Summer is the perfect time for students to dive deeper into STEM by continuing to explore and experiment with their SeaMATE ROV kits. These tools open the door to hands-on learning all summer long.

SeaMATE kits aren’t just for the MATE ROV Competition — they’re also a springboard for independent research, design testing, and creative exploration. Students can use the off-season to:

🌊Test new propulsion systems or camera mounts

⚙️Experiment with buoyancy and stability

🕹️Modify tools to complete mock missions or real-world tasks like retrieving items from a pool

World Ocean Week Spotlight: Join MTS and MATE ROV at CHOW in DC!🌊🌍🗺️

MTS and MATE are excited to attend the 2026 Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) this week.🦈 As a recipient of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation's 2026 Sanctuary Community Fund award, MATE ROV’s work will be showcased during CHOW. This award will fund MATE to run workshops in NY and HI this year. This convening will support community building and learning, offer inspiration and informational exchanges, and bolster support for marine sanctuaries that celebrate our maritime history and cultural heritage, spur economic prosperity and businesses, and open new opportunities for education and workforce development with access to all. 🚨Team Highlight!🚨

The TecXotic team from Tecnológico de Monterrey en Cuernavaca reached an amazing milestone this year! Since 2019, one of their biggest goals was increasing female participation in the team. After several years of women-led teams and focusing many of their STEM outreach and Corporate Responsibility activities on encouraging girls to join engineering, TecXotic 2026 is now a team made up of 70% women!

This year, a storm cause their lab roof to partially collapse. Despite this, the team still wanted to continue working on their documentation corrections and final details.

"I think moments like that remind us that these projects build much more than engineering skills."
