Celebrating culture and hopefully making some money to benefit AVID scholarships

Our final newsletter of the year featuring alumna Lauren Sanchez '12 and all of our graduating seniors. Thanks to everyone
who contributed, it allowed us to give $8600 in scholarships, the most ever. The alumni scholarship went to specifically to dreamers, two students for a total of $1200.

Alumni Scholarship Update!!!

We met our fundraising goal and thank you to all of your donations, yesterday we were able to award TWO inaugural Schurr AVID Alumni Scholarships! The scholarships were presented to two wonderful students who are ready to begin their college journeys this upcoming Fall.

In the picture meet Natali who will be attending California State Unviersity Chico in the Fall. Natali excels in the classrooms and serves as a role model for her peers. We are excited for her new journey!

Congrats to Mr. Avila, who yesterday celebrated his 10th graduating class! To many more years of supporting college dreams!

One of my favorite events my students and tutors organize every year, our 4th annual Egg and Scavenger Hunt for our friends with special needs. AVID students donate money to buy the baskets and the goodies. Then they make each basket. Every SPED student received a basket. More importantly, the interaction between the students was priceless. My students learn a beautiful lesson of selflessness, sensitivity, and compassion.

We reached our goal for $1000, but we know we can go for a bigger goal! We will continue to accept contributions so that we could save for next year or to give more next year! Thank you so much to those who contributed, we are humbled by everyone's effort! Let's keep sharing the link and our new page!

Schurr AVID has a proven track-record of supporting underserved students get into college! In 2018, the acceptance rate for the graduating class was of 92%!! Schurr AVID has helped more than 700 students get into college since 2009. The program has grown tremendously and there is a need for more scholarships. As we celebrate the 10th graduating class, since Mr. Carlos Avila became Coordinator, we are launching the Schurr AVID Alumni Scholarship. Our goal is to fundraise $1000 dollars to award two scholarship of $500 each. In honor of the 10th class we are asking for donations of $10 dollars, if you can donate more we highly encourage that!
