Please join us! Register by emailing Meredith McKinnie ([email protected]) and receive your FREE BOOK.

You are invited to join us for a book club program focused on fostering conversations about the history of voting—and efforts to suppress the vote—in the United States. This Library Reading and Discussion program, entitled Who Gets to Vote? Conversations on Voting Rights in America, is possible through a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

The discussions are open to the public and will take place on campus at the ULM Library, Room 458 . We will discuss themes from one book each month, beginning in July, and anyone is welcome to participate, even if you have not read the selected book for that month.

The discussion dates are as follows:

Tuesday, July 12 (5:00 PM): The Embattled Vote in America: From the Founding to the Present (Allan J. Lichtman)

Tuesday, August 23 (6:00 PM): The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote (Elaine Weiss)

Tuesday, September 20 (6:00 PM): Bending Toward Justice: The Voting Rights Act and the Transformation of American Democracy (G. May)

Tuesday, October 11 (6:00 PM): Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All (M. Jones)

If you would like a free copy of a book for any or all of the corresponding discussions, please register by emailing Meredith McKinnie ([email protected]). We only have a limited number of complimentary books for each session, but all are invited to attend the discussions.

Rest in power, Queen. Ruth lit the torch. It’s on all of us to carry it.

Just because Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2020 was cancelled doesn’t mean we can’t participate in SAAM Day of Action. Today we reflect on past Walk a Mile’s and the support that has been shown to survivors and the The Wellspring. We see survivors, we hear survivors, and we’re here for survivors.

Due to the cancellation of all University of Louisiana Monroe events and Governor Edwards’ request to limit gatherings, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® will not take place this year.

Stay tuned to find out how you can still show your support to survivors of sexual assault this April.
