Dunbar Creative and Performing Arts Magnet School

Updated MCPSS District Cell Phone Policy
2026 - 2027

In May of 2025, The FOCUS Act was signed prohibiting the students’ use of smart phones and other wireless devices (including smart watches, personal laptops/iPads, and smart glasses) inside Alabama’s public schools. Devices must be turned off and stored away from the student’s person per district policies. If a student brings a cell phone/digital device on campus, MCPSS requires the use of a Yondr pouch for proper storage of these devices while on campus.

Beginning in the 2026 – 2027 school year, parent/guardians will be required to purchase a Yondr pouch for the students ($25/each) if they prefer their devices stay on them during the school day. Students having their phone in the Yondr pouch is a privilege in accordance with district policy moving forward. Those who choose not to purchase a Yondr pouch must keep their devices OFF CAMPUS If a student damages or loses the Yondr pouch, the are responsible for replacing it.

New Student Registration
Monday, June 1st - Wednesday, June 3rd.

Daily Scheduled Times:
Monday, June 1st; 8 am to 2 pm.
Tuesday, June 2nd; 1 pm to 5 pm.
Wednesday, June 3rd; 8 am to 2 pm.

Acceptable Proof of Residence #1 (One Required)
• Must reflect physical residence and be dated within 100 days of the first day
• of school. All dollar amounts are to be concealed.
• Apartment or House Rent Receipt / Apartment or House Lease
• Deed
• Homeowner’s Insurance Policy
• Mortgage Statement
• Property Tax Records / Property Tax Receipt Record
• Renter’s Insurance Policy

Acceptable Proof of Residence #2 (One Required)
• Must reflect physical residence and be dated within 100 days of the first day
• of school. All dollar amounts are to be concealed.
• Check/Correspondence/Income Tax Records from IRS to Parent/Guardian
• Check/Correspondence from Social Security Office, Department of Human
• Resources (DHR), Food Stamp Office, or Temporary Assistance to Needy
• Families (TANF) to the Parent/Guardian
• Checking/Savings/Loan Statement
• Company Check/Verification from Employer
• Investment Certificate
• Two (2) Credit Card Accounts/Statements (counts as one proof)
• Utility Bill, Deposit, or Receipt
• Cable, Electric, Garbage, Gas, Telephone, Water/Sewer

Proofs of Residence may be uploaded digitally during online registration or presented in-person at the school during an in-person registration event.

Must have student's last Report Card.
