Thank you FNX | First Nations Experience for honoring the passing of our mother and heart of Navajo Highways!

The FNX | First Nations Experience family joins our community in mourning the loss and honoring the life of Sally Mannie Pete (May 11, 1962 – September 23, 2026).
Sally was the beloved mother of Navajo Highways creator Pete Sands and served as the real-life inspiration and spirit behind the cherished character of Grandma Sally. Her warmth, grace, and matriarchal presence brought enduring heart to the series and touched audiences across Indian Country and beyond.
Our deepest thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Pete and the entire Pete family during this time of mourning.
Ahéheeʼ, Sally, for sharing your light and legacy with all of us. 💜 Pete Sands

Our Navajo Highways team is deeply saddened by the passing of a visionary leader. Georgina Lightning’s fierce advocacy in film and television transformed an industry and opened doors for Indigenous creatives worldwide. “"Indian Country lost a force of nature and an important voice in filmed entertainment,” Daryl R. Begay, Navajo Highways Executive Producer. Georgina’s legacy will guide generations to come. May she rest in power and peace.

Good morning or Yá’áh’tééh Abiní! Coming to you live from the Navajo Highways headquarters. We just started a new series spotlighting our crew members who helped bring the show to life.

Today we begin by highlighting our Music Composer for our TV show, Mr. Nate Meredith. Nate is a classically trained musician who hails from Ogden, UT. For many years he was the bass player for our Writer/Director/Creator in the band “Pete Sands & the Drifters”. All the music you hear that captures all the emotions of the characters and the scenes came from Nate. We couldn’t be any more happier and appreciative of the talents Nate brought to the show. Adding another layer of depth onto the show.

From Pete Sands:
“I’ve known Nate for a long time now. We’ve played many shows together, been on the road together, had many ups and downs, but we always had a mutual respect and appreciation for one another’s talents. I wanted Nate from the beginning of the shows initial creative talks because I knew how multitalented he is and a mind to explore realms beyond his knowledge. Working with me for so long he’s gotten to know my background and my eccentric state of creativity. Believe me, asking artists to be a part of something radically new and a concept so outside of normal contemporary storytelling, is not an easy sell. But he never hesitated to join in. We all appreciate what he brought to the table and what he will continue to bring. Until next season. Hagóónéé!”
