Ok, lets talk Road construction in brief.

Firstly, I applaud the Ebonyi state govt for taking this exemplary lead position in Road construction at the LGA level in the NigeriaN community.
Yes, Concrete constructed roads will outlast anything else available to us at this time if ;

* The natural soil strength is factored in- well graded and various Limestone stabilizer mixes layered in and compacted (1000psi min. approx)
* adequately sized reinforcement Rebars are laid in place and correctly centered.
* the poured-in-place concrete is mixed with the right sized aggregate in a ratio to produce a min strength of 5000psi. and 12 inch thickness.
Then we can expect a life expectancy 50-100 yrs or more, with adequate maintenance.

Road construction is a complete package of its own. However, it's not complete without securing the sides and edges for shoulder protection.
In the absence of gutters or anti erosion barriers, rain or flood water can crepe under the slab, erode the base, creat a void and leave it susceptible to premature collapse.

I will implore the Governor to please add all finishing touches while I thank him immensely for his great deployment for the masses of Ebonyi State.

Mother nature brings us certain critical measures that must be adhered to when we put across sensible residential and commercial designs. It is notable that elements of societal infrastructure shall follow the International Building Codes and regulations and as fortified by local Authorities to allow for prevalent perils.

For instance, to withstand certain weather conditions in certain areas, it is customary to tilt up roofs to 45-60 degrees angle(8/12 slope ratio) or higher so that snow fall and flakes can easily slide off the roof... lest the dead load weight of accumulated snow can collapse the roof. Hence high tilt up roofs are for freezing snow-prone areas.
This concept is being copied and applied in Nigeria and West African countries and other tropical zones where there is almost a 0% chance of snow.
The result?
In the absence of an R-19 insulation or more, we end up with high volumes of heated air space between the ceiling and the high roofs. This heat is conducted down to the spaces/rooms below the ceilings resulting in very high discomfort and energy cost.
